Its funny... I keep thinking WTF YT is doing that? It makes blackhatters too easy to get to the top of the search page.

The ranking emphasize more on audience retention. View, like, and sub also count. We all know that.

But here's the flaw in this system -- YT counts audience retention according to view time.

You can just create a landing video of just 30 seconds. And you pump in 100s of 1000s of 30-second views from suppliers. That will give you almost 100% audience retention.

BTW, the landing video is just like landing page where there are links to other longer videos.

Want like and sub without affecting the audience retention?

At the beginning and the end of the video, just tell the viewers that they can get freebies if they like and sub.

What do you think abt it?

    Does it work?

    I'm almost 100% sure!

Have you tested this out? Youtube takes into account video length time. If someone watches a full 15 minute video that is much more powerful than a full 30 seconds.

I tested ranking a 35 second video vs a 5 minute video in a small niche, the 5 minute video is on page 1 and the 30 second is on page 4 (sent 30 second views to short video and 1 minute views to the 5 minute video).

Anyways that's just my experience, I wish it was that easy.

Amen, too many people forget this. View length counts for everything now on YouTube, but full length views that aren't "counted" in time watched still have the effect of higher rankings. After many tests, it comes down to people opening up their eyes and seeing the true power of ranking on YouTube. The sad part is, many people will try to still pull wool over your eyes and say "But the age of the video matters". The views MAY get you a decent ranking, but any video with high view retention, long video length will outrank that video. Don't take my word for it, go try it out and do tests. The more people that start advocating for full retention views, the more view providers will change and start offering them. Let the revolution begin...

YouTube's algorithms are quickly getting more complex. Social shares are also increasingly important too as well as location diversity.

    You got me :)

I have yet to test with different length of videos.

Btw you mean the view length, right. What about the actual length of the videos. Does the actual length of videos has effect on the ranking?

    Hmm... gotta test.
