u installed using fantastico and the default for 2.84 wp is block search engine...i don know y the new wp installation set to this but just allow for search engine and your site will be listed fast once you do the backlinks and bookmarkings.

certainly not HG, but wp settings.

Can you tell me where this is? I just started using WP and I use hostgator and if you say it is in the installation, I would like to go see myself..

Thanks

Go to hxxp://www.yoursite.com/wp-admin
fill in your id and password set at the time of wordpress installation.
On the next page Click on "Settings" on the left side navigation pane....from there choose "Privacy" sub-settings option from that list.
Now, you'll see "Blog Visibility"....select the first option that includes your blog's visibilty to search engines.....
And ya, don't forget to "save changes"....and it's done!!!
hope i made sense and conveyed the message across successfully.
Any problem, just hit me up.

It used to be Wordpress would automatically default to allow search engines to your site...but with the new upgrade by wordpress, the default is to NOT allow search engines. I had one site, that I didn't change the setting in time, and I never could get it indexed. I think the reason it's there is, unless you have a pinging plugin in place to limit the number of times your site is pinged...every time you make a change to your site while you are building it, it will ping.

So if the default is not to allow search engines...then you won't in danger of over pinging. This is what I was told. Maybe that's wrong information. But I always use smart update pinger plugin, and ALWAYS mark privacy to allow SE's.

Good luck.

That really sucks. That's 2 weeks of work pretty much lost because you couldn't be indexed. Well at least now Google may pick up on your site quickly.

Glad I always manually install WP.

I spotted this the other day on my own.

I think this feature is quite stupid honestly.

It is default for wordpress 2.8.4 not in HG

This only applies if you use fantastico to install your wordpress blogs, there was a topic warning everyone about it, not too long ago.

Oh, I never new about this. Thank you for all the information guys. These are really helpful. I will try and look into this matter about fantastico.
