First things first, this tactic has nothing to do with the internet, but simply something "black hat" you can do in the real world.

As far as I know, this isn't illegal.

My basis of this theory is: I've been fucked over time and time again by companies, they can deal with this.

Ok, so the basic idea here is to buy items in a store, while on clearance, and return them for a profit.

I'll give some tips and examples:

I went to a large department store locally, and noticed a "Liquidation Sale", if you will, of kids shorts, for only like $2 bucks per pair. I bought $20 worth of shorts, so 10 pairs. Not a bad deal! Now, what am I going to do with 10 pairs of kids shorts? Well, I am going to return them, but not to the same location. In my area, we have about 4 of these specific stores. I went that same day to another location (only about 5 miles away .. ) and made up a story. "My kid's grandparents from (diff. state) bought all of these shorts for my three kids. All of them are wrong sizes. No I don't have my recipt, it wasn't sent with the clothes. No I don't want to exchange them, I'll just take store credit. (They wouldn't give me cash, so I just took credit)" The thing is at this location, the shorts weren't on sale, and I got $29.99 per pair. $29.99 X 10 = $299 - $20 (initial investment) = $279

I managed a profit of $279, granted it's on a gift card, but it's $279 more than I had before.

I did this with some other stores, and some would give cash back, others wouldn't.

I also had two cases where the same items were on sale, so I "found" my receipt, and just got the initial cash back.

This method works most of the time, but not always. The good part is you can't loose money. You can only gain. Now this does take a bit of work, but if you can keep it cool and stick to the story, you can get some easy cash. Not a ton, but it's more than you started with.

    Just remember:
*Always have your receipt, but never tell them, unless the item are also on sale there
*Look for SUPER cheap items, don't go for the 10% off, go for the 75% off.
*We had a K-Mart just close around here, and stuff was 90% off. Great time to do it.
    *Stay cool
    *Stick to your story

Hope it helps .. if it didn't then sorry for wasting your time :p

This does work. It does not work at as many places as it use to, but if you are a shopper then you know the places you can do this at.

I use to have a friend of mine that had to do this as a chore. His mom would buy stuff all over, and then have him and I return it all at different locations a day or so later.

More companies track this a little better then they use to, and some will make you sign a return, so if you are doing this often, have a few friends or family members do some runs with you.

Good call on the "return slips" they give. I forgot about that.

There was only one store that required some ID. There were about two or three others that just asked me to sign, but didn't ask for an actual ID. If they do, just BS a signature or something. Or you could do as mentioned above and bring some friends/family with you.

lol or you just print off your own upc / ean stickers...I've bought $400 LCD screens for 97 cents and resold them on ebay for cash =)

label paper, color printer, and excel barcode wizard bindings...

This does work really well. I have been doing this for a long time lol Another good way to do this is to go to TJ Maxx or Ross or Marshalls and lets say a Dress Shirt then what you do is take one of your dress shirts you dont like and prob have never wore before (maybe a gift from the grandparents lol) Then take the tags off the shirt you bought from one of those stores and then put the tag onto the shirt you dont like and prob never wore before. If you have your receipt then you will basically trade a shirt you dont like with a shirt you do like. Not really making money though but at least you get something you like. lol

The reason why this works is becuz this is a department store and they have all sorts of brands of merchandise and since there are so many different ones there is no possiblity to have a different bar code for ever size, color, designer, type, and etc. shirt, pants, shoes, socks, etc. So what they do is do it by deparment number. For example, dress shirts department 9-242. Works everytime. :p :)

There are all kinds of ways to cheat retail stores. Just think outside the box lol

yeah they like to make examples out of those they catch. in my experience it's much more effective to either have a 'friend' working the cash register or go through a self checkout at walmart when it's busy. Worst case just leave. Most of the employees would lose their job on the spot if they try and detain you. The few that may be able to aren't going to fight you over it. If you get caught, just walk away. I've been 'caught' several times...just walk away, they will try and talk you into handing yourself over but no one is going to slug you over it.

that poor kid sang too. it's much more difficult to really get in trouble if you clamp your trap.

At least make it believable if you are gonna do this. Who would think they would get a TV for like 97 cents and not get caught?

Just a thought if you don't say anything when you 'exchange' and they ring up the wrong price your cool if you argue and demand new shop price then that's theft.

Definition of theft in UK is "Dishonestly appropriate property with the intention of permanently depriving the other of it". I'm guessing it doesn't differ that much worldwide.

Hence if you don't say anything you can't be dishonest and they are just unlucky you just deny all knowledge of the price they will never prove otherwise at a different store.

However is it worth going to jail for $279 bucks? Common guys some guy in France lost billions of his companies money and got 3 years.

In my original post, I never said argue. If they ring you up at a higher price, great, take the money and leave. If they don't, just "find" your receipt and get the initial investment back.

And whats that guy in France got to do with anything? Tons of people loose all assets for doing stupid stuff. The golden rule: don't get caught!

Finally, thanks for all the thanks, and as a final note, I wouldn't suggest the barcode tricks, stores have gotten far too "smart" for that.

A friend of mine makes a lot of money doing the same but instead of taking back the stuff he sells it on Ebay. Not as much profit but he does end up with cash and its legit.

If you don't like it, don't use it, but don't knock it. And this forum is more than just sharing programs. If your here for warez, go somewhere else. This forums is meant to find information.

Good call with eBay, the only thing I'd be concerned with there is the items not selling. There is more monetary risk in doing it on eBay.

Personally Octane IDC really if this is in here. I would think it should be in the BHW lounge because it doesnt have anything to do with
But DO NOT talk like that to senior members such as nicho... You with your less then 50 posts or w/e have nowhere near the respect that he has..
Sure this can make money but Blackhat has to do with marketing and SEO
    Not basically stealing
Personally I think the idea is kinda cool and I mgiht try it sometime for laughs but it shouldnt be in the making money section... try BHW lounge next time

Thanks for the reply. Now, I don't want to argue with anyone, but this is a method to make money. I figured "making money" would be appropriate. Next time, I'll put it in the lounge.

One the other hand though, I couldn't care less if he owned the site. Senior member or not, people don't need to be rude. besides, if you are that worried about me saying something to someone with "internet respect" we need to get ourselves a real life with real respect.

Either way, thanks for the post, and I hope if you do try this method it works out for you.

    All the best,

    Octane

Let's see, committing fraud like that seems a bit different than stuffing a few cookies, perhaps misleading a bit of traffic, and maybe cloaking a few pages. You could sell pictures of items on Ebay misleading people in to believing that they are getting an actually product, and digital images can be found for free all over then net.

    crsk8andsno56 has got it right.

Also, note that this is fraud, and it is illegal.
