Normal for Google Dance to drop off top 100?

Hello,

Added a link from a large PBN, every single one of my tracked keywords have dropped off the top 100 rankings in multiple countries.

Site is 4 months old.

Is this normal? I've experienced G Dance before where it drops 20-30 positions, but all of them have dropped off.

It's a BH site so it's not in Webmasters

What anchor ratio are you making use of ?
Seems Big G dance - Yes It go can go off 100+ Depending on KW trying to rank .

55% URL (no http)
18% HTTPS + http URL
and 2% (1 link) for each KW according to Ahrefs. As well as some random terms like "Here", "click here", "find out more"...etc

My bet is that you got penalized, somehow. What about the other keywords?

I had a site not long ago that bounced from pos 2 to page 20 and it did this for a few months.

It does give these kind of shocks. I started doing seo on one of my website. It was not PBN, it was all in one package from marketplace. and my site disappeared after 2-3 weeks. I was shocked because it was not appearing even for brand term. 3 days and i came back all on page 1 and 2 from page 6-8 (earlier)

It could be that search engine tries to frighten us when they find some good work. if you get nervous and delete that, they will get what they want. so you should keep patience, it pays off at the end

I don't get it how not adding your domain to WMT would protect it? They have all the info already, its just about revealing to you. Its only discouraged to add mutiple BH sites under a single WMT account to claim ownership of all.

I'd agree.. that seems unusual for "every" keyword to have dropped like that. I'd bet it's a penalty.

All of my tracked keywords - I'm still ranking for 900 others according to Ahrefs. All of my "money" keywords are 80+ now with the vast majority being 100+. Ahrefs updated their DB a few hours ago and this is the new data I have. I'm going to assume I'm good for the time being?

I haven't added it because it's not important - if the site gets a manual penalty I know why.

I'm going to leave it and see what happens, but I've never added a link like this and seen such fluctuations. Moving a page or two is the norm for me, I was stuck on page 2 for most of my desired keywords and now they're mostly 80+.

Hopefully this means I'll be in the top 3 when I get bounced back. I'm creating a few more PBN's now so they can age for when I bounce back to page 1 - fingers crossed.

Well... with that being said, I think we can assume that you got penalized. I would start by making a research on your backlinks and creating a disavow for the bad ones and those that you think that are suspicious.

I won't do anything just yet - I've added quite a large PBN so I want to see how it plays out first before I start disvowing links. Ahrefs has picked up another 5 keywords tonight, so I'll leave this one to play out for a few weeks.

I wouldn't be too fast to think it's a penalty. I'm often surprised how far up and down keywords bounce before settling

This would be expected if the site is brand new. If this is an established site then I have bad news for you concerning that PBN link.

There was a major Google update recently. You might have been affected.

Research so far points at editorial links and scholarship links being possible culprits. Have you used any of those?

The site is 4 MO old since being indexed. Not sure if I would class this as established, but it's not brand new. The PBN has 107 Referring domains, with the vast majority being authority sites within my niche. Ahrefs picked up another 5 keywords I'm ranking for overnight, so I'm going to see what will happen.

Haven't used either of those types of links nor are they pointing to any of my PBN links. That was my first thought when I read about the update, but it didn't seem to take any effect until I dropped this PBN link.

Ok then it is possible that the power of the PBN itself caused it.

To be sure... check the cache date of the PBN site. Is the link recognized by google?
https://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:PBNDOMAIN.com

If the link is present in the cashed version it is recognized. If not something else caused it.

Date of the update was in the 24th - 27th range. Is this the time it occurred?

The domain is cached, last cached on the 25th. It's a few months old because I got sidetracked, so I haven't dropped a link as soon as it was live. I dropped the link probably 2 days before the serp fluctuations happened (over a week ago now). I'm fairly certain from what others have said it's my PBN, but usually I never see such drops for tracked keywords.

I've got the same right now. 15k/ms keyword.

What did you do to stop this?

are you developing pbn on expired domain or buying on auction. If its on expired domain, give ample time before you link out. or better use SAPE link if you know how to use it. If you are not an expert, better avoid

It was an expired domain with good links. I build the whole domain out (had loads of blog posts initially on wordpress) converted to normal HTML keeping the original structure. The PBN itself was 2 MO before I linked out - got sidetracked with other stuff so I left it. The PBN link is a homepage link, with 90% of links pointing towards homepage which might account for the fluctuations.

The site is now ranking for more keywords, so I think this is G Dance
