What is The Best Method To Rank a Website in Google?

Disclaimer: The SEO process that is laid out in the below article is not necessarily the best one to follow. In fact I would not rank a site using the below processes as outlined myself. There are many more variables I would be implementing in the process of off site SEO. It is merely an example of of the thinking process when a person is choosing what to do, and how to do it, when ranking a site. Please do not follow that as a process to rank a site based on what I have written.

There are so many different variables to choose from when ranking a site I could not put them all in this article or you would have ended up throwing things at me so I chose a few that are commonly talked about at the time of this writing.

Wouldn?t it be nice if we had a set program where all you had to do was to follow step by step instructions to rank a site in Google? Simply, follow this 10 step plan and your site would be #1 in Google in a matter of weeks and would stay there making you money hand over fist?

Well, we know that is not the case but you can follow a step by alternative step program of sorts by implementing some of the processes I use, not only to rank sites, but in business in general. I do not think that my thought process is earth shattering, in fact I don?t think that any of my thought processes are, but it is effective and has served me well over the years and is probably the best way to get a site ranked.

The premise is that every move you make is predicated on the success of your previous moves.

There are a few different side thoughts that go with this but the basis is that you need so evaluate each step along the way to see if it was successful to enough of an extent to build upon it or should you take an alternative path way to ranking and banking. You see, not every process, no matter how powerful, no matter how many are using it, no matter how many laud and applaud it, is best for your particular site. I don?t care if it is direct links from Google.com itself, it may not be best for your site to get it ranked.

    Your Web Site Foundation

Lets? look at some processes that I know work very well. I decide to build a new authority site and plan to have it cover 1,000 keywords. I get a decent domain from my favorite domain supplier, with backlinks and a clean profile, I get quality content from my writing service that is written by some of the better writers there to my specifications, I put up a nice looking site using hosting service that offers a private IP address so others are not on the same IP and then I start to backlink.

With your nice site, that has good content and proper On Site SEO in place and you want to do the best thing possible in your backlinking process and since there are a lot of guys that are chatting up Web 2.0s as the best backlink for your site you start working on them. You build 20 nice Web 2.0s with clean content, make them a few pages each and link to your site from on of the several pages on the site using anchor text in some, exact match anchors in others and naked urls yet in others.

Nothing. No movement. A big fat zero in the rankings.

What should a website owner do to get some rankings in Google after building some quality Web 2.0s and seeing no action?

    Gather Your Backlinking Data

You need more data so you want to make sure they are indexed? if not you need to get them indexed. Then you may want to bolster them with some backlinks or perhaps some social media love, some social bookmarks? maybe hit them with some blog comments? you need to do some evaluating and pick one or several different methods before taking the next step. Maybe you hit some with a GSA blast for SEO, some with blog comments, some with social bookmarks and some with some social signals. From there you can then check, after a few days or week or so, and see if they are indexed and what they look like in the search engines themselves. Once you have that information you need to make some choices as to the next steps you are taking based on the success of those previous ones.

Say the next thing I do is to put some backlinks up using parasite SEO and build some parasite pages with links to your site. Most people that have been doing white hat SEO for a period of time know that parasite pages for SEO is a pretty solid method to get authority site links to your site and some give decent link juice as well. They can rank on their own, of course, but that is really not what your end goal is if you are building an authority site that will rank for hundreds of keywords? you want them for the link power they offer.

Ok, you have 100 articles up, properly written and with proper on site SEO, a half dozen parasite pages with links to some of those articles, your Web 2.0s which are indexed and have a variety of backlinking to them and nothing is showing anywhere in your rank tracker. All you have is a bunch of N/As sitting in there next to your keywords and you have put in some time, energy and money with those results. Surely you should have seen some movement, right? Well, maybe not? there is more to the picture than what we are seeing apparently.

Since the parasite SEO did not cause your site to blast to the top you need to think what would be the next step. Do you go to an alternative process and abandon all hope of the parasite pages being your ranking savior or do you think that perhaps you should do something to boost the pages. If you boost them, do you add content to the pages or do you add backlinks in the form of a ?SEO GSA blast??

    Or do you do both?

Formulate a Plan Based on Your Data

You are at a juncture where you need to make a decision based on the effectiveness of the previous step you just took. So, what do you do? How do you even decide what to do? What you should be doing is looking at the data of your backlinks and see what is happening there. Check and see if they are indexed and if not get them indexed. Once indexed you then give them a few days and see where they stand in the search engines? if they are nowhere to be found you have a choice of what to do then as you now have more data. I?m probably going to add content to them as well as backlink them as both are good for the existing situation and I?ll do it in such a way as that there will be different amounts of links and different amount of content to each parasite/authority page.

After you do whatever magic you are going to do for your parasite page SEO, you then check your rankings, recheck your Web 2.0s, add content to the Web 2.0s, slip in some more backlinking to them all the while adding content to your site as you want to rank for 1,000 keywords and you need content to do that. That will take time as you probably want to check the main links to your site manually to see if they are live and indexed.

Although there are link checkers out there that are good, they are not perfect and since this is your business and part of your livelihood, you want to make sure things are as perfect as possible.

Now that you have all the above squared away and you are building content on a semi-regular basis to your site, keeping your backlinks active by some prodding, you want to look to see what steps make sense to take.

Should you go with some Press Releases? Maybe some link packages? Should you mix in some blatant blackhat SEO or stay the white hat SEO course? How about a little gray hat SEO to see if you can get some movement and start driving organic traffic to your site?

You call upon the gray hat SEO guys and see about getting some Sape Links? but do you add them directly to your site or do you link them to something that is linking to your site?

Going Gray Hat in Your Backlinking

Sape links, although a little different in terms of traditional SEO are still pretty powerful and can give you a nice bump in the search engines. Some of the networks can really give you a strong boost and some can even cause your site to tank like a concrete block in the water. With that in mind you decide to use them in an indirect way to your site. You have some Sape links link to a couple of your authority parasite pages and some to your Web 2.0s. The effect will not be as aggressive SEO wise and you can make changes in your approach based on the results you get there.

Sape links in place, you are tweaking your Web 2.0s, adding links to the authority parasite pages, adding more content to them as well, building your site with more solid unique content and watching your rankings and are starting to see some movement.
    Finally!

But after a few weeks you seem to plateau out on your rankings and are disappointed in the results so you need to take a look once again and decide what steps to take.

    • Should you replicate the process that got you where you are?
    • Should you replicate some of the process?
    • Should you buys some domains and 301 them to your site?
    • Should you hire some writers and get super quality content on your site?
    • How about a new theme? Is it time to change that?
    • Do you need to make sure you are interlinking properly on your site?

The answers to those questions, and all other SEO ranking questions, really lie in your testing to see what works and building on that. Once you see what does and does not work, you then decide what is your next step in SEO, and bypassing that process is not just bad for your site, it is bad business in general.

If you are looking to be successful in the SEO world and rank your sites so that they drive organic traffic that will make you money, you need to do a fair amount of due diligence and a large part of that is seeing what works for YOUR SITE and building on that.

So, going forward in your SEO ventures, whether you are building an authority site for the long term, or doing a short term churn and burn site, make sure that every move you make is predicated on the success of your previous moves.

nice thread. Hate asking stuff for free but spotted your parasite thread n will get it in a week or so once my sites finished but couple of questions if you don't mind.

The 100 articles, they're on the web 2s? How do I host the web 2s if I'm linking to my main site?
I bought some domains that I wanted to build like that but they're registered in my real name, from reading on here they're fuked are they for linking to my main site now? If so can I use them as a money site instead if its only selling 2-3 products that I have on my main site?

And you are naive if you think that people who put alot of work in writing and sharing stuff like this for free only do it to help newbies.

    Nice one BTB, excellent read!

Loved the disclaimer, especially the part where you say you wouldn't use this info to rank a site. I will anyways, so "ha!" to yourself good sir ;)

I hope we can finally lay this topic to rest or someone else will make this same thread again in the future, as has already been done in the past.

We should gather and sticky all of these kinds of threads and have a bot automatically post a link to those threads every time someone creates a thread or post asking this.

New people, please read and study. There's so much great information here and elsewhere but BTB felt it necessary to be yet another to make another thread like this to help you. Success comes not only from knowing the information but knowing the process of getting the information.
Don't rely on being spoonfed, take this information to heart and continue learning and searching.

We are all small when it comes to SEO, I put this together because I get a few requests here and there about the proper steps to rank a site, even though, as LakeForest pointed out, there are other threads that have a similar message. I seriously get no less than 20 requests a week as to how to rank this site or that one and thought I'd share what I could to help guide some folks.

If there is one constant in SEO it is that there is no constant and that is one thing that makes our business interesting and keeps us on our toes.
