So i am still trying to figure out tons of black hat fundamentals.

i recently got the cpa redirector to work, thanks for BHW members for the assist. i now have an ugly long URL that points to my CPA offer .i have seen other members use URL shorteners like bit.lydotcom and shrinkmylinkdotcom.

so what purposes does shrinking your link have besides making it look cleaner and shorter?

is it always recommended to shrink your link?

and does bitlydotcom and shrinkmylinkdotcom do the same thing? is one prefered over the other?

thanks for the assist so far BHW!! any response is always greatly appreciated

    trevorhoang,

Shortening your link with these services allows your URL to be shorter and it hides the referral information that the browser spits out. It prevents someone from finding out where the visitor came from. It's great for preventing backtracks from certain URLs you do not want exposed.

Use it when you need too - Both services are pretty much the same. It's only a url shorten service.

Doesn't really matters. It just looks good. With direct link, the parameters like affid, offer, etc. can catch some unwanted attention.

I will not use a url shortening site I don't have 100% control over. I use my own short url script on my own url shortening site.

Using a shorturl service doesn't generally hide your referrer. Most shorturl services just use a 301 or a 302 redirect and these will carry the referrer - that's why you have to use a referrer faker like Brad's script as well. Shorturls just make your links look nicer and are required in some situations like Twitter where you have a tiny character limit.

Like others have said, I would personally advise against using a third party shorturl services where you don't control the redirect. Set up your own private shorturls on your own domain; this will also enable to track the traffic with total accuracy.
