I was analyzing some of my competitors backlinks and I found that that site has some .edu.tw and .edu.in backlinks along with simple .edu links. My question is that do these links count as valid edu backlinks or not?

Yes of course they do, these are simply .edu's from other countries. The more diverse your backlinks are the better :)

It's all valid just in a different country.., I would be just the regular .edu had more value that in other countries

Yeah.. some clever IMers started buying these (no idea how... signing up as a fake school maybe) and sell/trade backlinks with them.

    This one's my favorite- harvard.edu.pl/

    Yes,

I feel they are not as powerful though because the US has Educase that manually approves domains and some other countries anyone can register domains and it is an automatic process.
