So I have site.com which I am trying to rank for KW A. I also have a UK version of the sike with the same content that I would like to rank for the same keyword. Should I do separate rankings SEO for the same keyword with the separate domains?

u need to have separate content buddy otherwise you can end up with penalty on one of your sites if Google does not know that both sites are owned by the same person.

am sure with search console and the fact that the URL is the same except the cctld that they know....

Can't you use uk.site.com (Uk version), site.com (international version)?

maybe I wasn't clear in my question so let me repeat it. I have site widgets.com selling widgets. I also have the UK version of widgets.com (widgets.co.uk) selling widgets to UK clients. I would like to rank for the term widgets both with my .com site and UK site (but for UK just for google UK) Would I have to rank separately for the same KW in both markets as in do seo for "widgets" internationally with the .com domain and in the UK for the UK domain or just try to rank it with one domain and not both?

Well, use the hreflang tags as I mentioned. This will protect you against penalties and duplicate content.
However, you have to rank both websites separately. idk if each one of them benefits the other or not, apart from internal linking
