Just wanted to hear some thoughts about this since i have been reading a lot lately about this. Also would be great If there is anyone willing to share how it can be done properly. What impact it has on seo, is it worth it or not?

I tried a redirect but after i saved the htaccess file, the whole blog went to shit and i got page not found.

If your wordpress installation is up to date you no longer have to mess with .htaccess, you do it in the wordpress backend under Settings -> general, next to wordpress address and site address.

If you have done some backlinking to the non www I dont think is a good idead to change it now. If you have done well you research you will have noticed that www its just a subdomain and the original domain is with out www

    .htaccess I use often:
    Code:
    RewriteEngine On

    RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^yoursite\.com$ [NC]
    RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www\.yoursite\.com/$1 [L,R=301]
It should pass the link juice to the new location. You can expect a short google dance, but nothing serious.
You can also use the google webmaster tools to point their robot to the www.domain.

    Hope this helps.

IF I was you, I will take a look in Google and see how my pages are indexed, i.e With or without WWW.

If It is with www, I will redirect non www to www. or else, I will just do the opposite :)

Even better is to redirect WWW to non WWW, so you arent missing any of the link juice that you deserve :)
