    Hello,
I am currently researching with my trial page how to position my German honey and bee page on Google's first page. Besides content everybody mentions back-links, but relevant back-links are difficult to find in the German universe.
Will English backlinks / articles help me ranking a German site?
    Thank you,
    Mike

I think some are ok, but logically think about how a normal German site would be getting talked about in other languages.

Thanks, ... it would not get talked about at all ;)
That is the problem, trying to might be even detrimental, I guess.

Don't worry, it's the same for all countries except UK, US, Australia, Canada, basically countries where every tool has a blog and a website.

All you need to do is start building connections. Gather lists of important bloggers in your country, content websites and publishers, news websites and email them asking if you can guest post or, oh no, buy some articles from them. Most will reply back eventually. Be patient.

it's never a good idea to host different language anchors in English content. If you're going to go with a SEO campaign have your desired anchors (keywords) placed in German content and have your branding anchors (company name, website, etc) placed both within German content and English content.

It's really hard getting German links but I know a guy who knows a guy... PM me if you want to invest some money into SEO but be advised that German links are expensive :)

    Thank you all,
my take away is main site linked to from English sites might help, but not much, keywords have to stay in the same language (would be reasonable to do for Google). And thanks :) but I will try the content route before I invest in German backlinks.

I rank some foreign sites with just English links and anchors. Must be local domain and good on page SEO.

    Sure, they will.

No matter what country your links may come from, if they come from high-quality relevant websites, they will contribute to your website ranking progress.

Perhaps, in the context of the latest Google updates, these links will have a little less SEO value, than the ones that come from German sites (although it's not been proved yet). But these links won't do any harm to your site for sure.

Just note that in order to increase your site visibility in your country, you'd better get a bigger portion of local links. If your site is locally-oriented and has only the German version, links from other countries won't drive you much traffic or result in a bigger bounce rate.

Bad idea. May be just few for link variety.
