Hi all I understand unnatural anchor text distribution is one cause for penguin penalty. If these links are nofollow is this still the case? I ask because I'm doing a link disavow in WMT and I heard that google treats it as a nofollow link. So the link will be disavowed but won't I still be screwed bc of my unnatural anchor text distribution? Let's say my keyword is blue widgets and I built hundreds of blog comments with the anchor text 'blue widgets'. Now I disavow all of them so Google sees them as nofollow but they still count toward my anchor text distribution, right? If there is an unnatural amount of the same anchor text say 40%, then does it even matter if I disavow? Won't I still be penalized bc of my anchor texts? Hope this makes sense. thanks!
build and disavow is not get you to the right track, better you can build no-follow links along with do-follow and also use more related long tails and lsi for anchor diversification.
There's absolutely no reason to worry about. First, once links are disavowed in WMT, they are not taken into account by Google at all. Even if you had tons of forum links with the same anchor text, and Google didn't ban you for that, the search engine will not do that after you disavow them. Second, as lots of studies proved, Google doesn't take nofollow backlinks into account when determining website value. Basically, the premise of the nofollow tag is to inform Google that some link might be paid advertising, or it can look a bit unnatural, so you put a nofollow tag on that link for the search engine not to pass any link juice. That's why Google will hardly ban you for having a lot of nofollow links with identical anchor text (unless you are an evil spammer :eek13.
When you are planning to disavow, don't worry about the ratio. Nofollow links won't harm. All you need now is to remove those backlinks as counted one's. After your site is out of penalty, you can create quality high authority backlinks and steady the ratio.
