    What's your opinion?
    http://www.seo-blog.com/rel-nofollow.php

Summary of this Story: nofollow works on yahoo and also on google for the keyword in SERPS when page is already indexed.

That article is good. Nofollow links may do all kinds of wonderful things but they don't help you rank over your competitors.

Do-follow or No-follow, a backlink is a backlink. Only the PR of sites give more Juice, not do-follow tags :)

Think of it like this. Google has a problem with comment spam - people spamming blog comments with their links to try and gain a better rank.

So, Google invents nofollow - an attribute that lets spammers know that if they spam the comments on this blog, it will not help them to rank.

Nofollow is popular and widely used across platforms like wordpress. It means "I cannot vouch for this link - therefore, do not count it as a vote for that website in the search engines.

Why would google invent this system and then not use it?

    The very idea is ridiculous.

Backlinks with a no-follow attribute don't pass pagerank.

They don't increase your rankings. Its a fact, not an opinion.

It suprises me that there are people today who still believe that nofollow is useful for ranking in google.

I think it useful to add link diversification. What i mean is that if a site had 100% do follow links that would not be natural. If you have a better ratio between do-follow and no-follow then think the links are added naturally. What is the ratio who knows ask matt cutts.

this is my opinion and may not be correct

No, they see the backlinks, they crawl the pages on those backlinks but they pass no PR.

You will not gain any increase in PR/rankings from no-follow links.

The backlinks will be detected and you can see them in yahoo or any backlink checker tool, but thye mean nothing.

You are making the assumption that because they are detected, that they are passing PR, but they are not.

PS* Google link:www.example.com will only show a very very small amount of your backlinks, nofollow AND "********". Using link: in google will only show a long term trusted link. So it is quite pointless.

Pretty sure he meant no-follow links will help u rank on other search engines like bing and yahoo but not google. Also just like other said, having a diversity in links is also important.

Why would relevance make any difference? The link is nofollow. The website owner has applied the nofollow tag, asking that google not take the link into account in its ranking calculations.

I'm agreeing with Micallef. The idea that google would create the nofollow and not apply it is just simply fucking stupid.

You can't find 100% ******** links everytime.. some site changes from donofollow to nofollow but focusing more on ******** is good as nofollow links comes in automatically.. :tee:

I do think nofollow link carry some weight even though it is not counted as a link juice.
