I'm going to work on two methods at the same time because I have the time. Grayhat Instagram and micro-niche sites. Regarding finding keywords for the site, should I pay for kwfinder or buy them from here? I'm a near-total noob. There's also Jaaxy and other tools, and there seems to be little consensus on which tool is the most accurate for gauging competition. I've read some of the manual kw research posts and will try to apply them correctly. Kw research is what I've always been stuck on but I want to just dive in and get experience.

Don't copy methods 1 on 1 would be my advice, try finding innovative ways to use the concepts of the methods in your situation

Agree, put your own twist to every method out there. You should always try to innovate that’s how you go about competition.
For the keyword part I would go with keysearch.co since it is the same thing like kwfinder but cheaper. It has little less modern UI but if you want to keep your costs down, that’s the best tool out there in terms of what you get for money you pay. Since I use them I have a coupon for 20% off which will make it extremely cheap in this market. I would not go with the keywords you buy here - I did it three times in the past and it never worked.
If needed more advices, don’t hesitate to pm. I’ve been in the same situation.

Is Keysearch.co's keyword SEO difficulty algorithm accurate?

if you are new to IM i think you should avoid kw research, is not easy
What do you suggest I try then?

SEO is one part of the equation, but I recommend you take some time as well to learn other methods of driving traffic, both free and paid.

If you don't have a lot of money to invest into marketing/advertising initially, you can learn free traffic promotion methods using social media and forums etc... If you have some money to invest, I would definitely recommend experimenting with paid advertising as this can explode your profits and pay itself off many times over if done right.
