I heard some advertisers pay CPM for adword, and that why you can get paid by adsense if you have impressions but no clicks.
I've already had a few cents of adsense earnings with a few thousand impression but zero click when I started with adsense.

Yes - if the amounts are small it is probably CPM. It is documented on the Google Adsense site somewhere if you dig for it.

The CPM income reporting can be confusing because the income is a small fraction of a cent per display - but Adsense reporting rounds to the nearest cent - which is usually zero for any single impression.

However, the fractions are correctly recorded and cumulated in your commission account - and does display once the total CPM income exceeds half a cent.

But you need a lot of traffic before CPM generates any real income.

Nice thing about CPM is that it is difficult (impossible?) to monitor traffic quality - because no click is required to earn. So how can the advertiser know where his sales are coming from (or more importantly NOT coming from)?
