I have got myself to some good positions for some KWs but although some of these are 1st 2nd or 5th places in Serps - Analytics shows zero visitors for these keywords.....What does this mean?

Surely if I rank for a KW that is related to my page, and I am top 3 then people will visit the page right?

So in other words I am wasting my time optimizing for allegedly good keywords and visitors are not using these KW s to get to my site. Have you found this ever?

What tool are you using to check? does it make sure that the results are proper results, not personalised? If they are personalised they will have been weighted to where you visit, so ranked your own site higher just in your results

Also is the ranking in the right country? If, for example, there are 3k exact global searches then fine, but where are they? If you are targeting US searches then ranking in the UK is almost pointless

Two obvious aspects but thought it best to ensure they were covered

If you're google searching to check please note *your* google SERPs are influenced by sites you visited, geolocation, google site visiting, 1+, friends 1+, etc.. as a result this is not really reliable and will mislead you to believe its top 10..

You need to at least logout and clear cookies to get an reasonable picture
Or check out some applications that do this for you quickly and objectively (SEO Power Suite is one, Market Samurai is another, IBP works too)

This is the most common cause of people seeing their site ranking high but no traffic, I actually see my site ranked no.3 for it's primary KW in Firefox, but using software I know it is page 2. I use a second browser such as Chrome for quick checking of rankings, which i've never logged into any G accounts with.

If you don't want to install ranking software (which you should), you could load up another browser if you have one installed.

Did I explain it right -

    What I mean is
    1. Google keyword tool tells me what to go for
    2. I optimise for sensible KW
    3. I get to the top of the engines for this KW in a few weeks
    4. I check my Google site analytics and no fucker is coming to the site from those KWs

    Make sense?

I have the same problem I ranked 6 for a 27k month kw and maybe I get one hit a day from that KW.

    1. Did you use exact or broad searches? Broad search is usually meaningless, you need to use exact for a good idea of how many people are really searching for your keywords.

    3. How do you know you are ranking? The above comments were pointing out that sometimes it can seem like you are ranking well when you really are not. To make sure your rankings are accurate use a browser that you do not normally use and try checking your rankings from there.

Google will give personalized search results, so if are logged in or have clicked on your site from Google it will push your site to the top (FOR YOU). A great way to check and make sure the results you are seeing is accurate is to use a different browser for checking your rankings. Never sign into Google from this browser and never click on a link to one of your sites from Google in this browser.

    4. The most common reasons are
    A. Using broad instead of exact searches during the research phase
    B. Not really ranking as high as you thought.

If you are really ranked #6 chances are you used broad instead of exact searches.

No its exact. I was very excited cause all it took was one link push to put me on first page then boom nothing. Im thinking that google kw tool isnt all that accurate.

Oh an yes I have a clean browser, logged out all that.

Very weird, did you log out your google account when you searched the keywords?
