I just want to get that name out there, Nitin Khanna. I received an e-mail at 4:00 A.M. or so from godaddy stating that my domain was being transferred. I logged in around 5:00 A.M. when I got the e-mail to try to cancel it but the transaction had already gone through.

He purchases webhosting through bluehost.com. They had the domain parked after the transfer.

Godaddy said it was in the hands of Nitin Khanna. I talked to them on the phone and they said "they transfered it in-house" but don't know why and that I would have to contact their legal team. The legal team gave me the name and asked me why he would have the domain...Not a very bright legal team so far but hopefully they will pull through.

Usually people who've just been robbed $17,000 are a lot more unhappy than that. However, I do hope you get your domain back. Raise hell about this! stop at nothing.

BTW did you have any idea that this was even happening? is there any reason why this is happening that you would be able to identifiy?

I'm trying not to worry too much about it right now because godaddy said it was transferred to another one of their accounts so they still have access to it. Reading other information about Godaddy in this section of the forum though has me worried...

I have absolutely no idea why this happened. The site is an authority PR6 site with 100,000 backlinks so the domain alone has a lot of value. I wouldn't be surprised if some godaddy employee just jacked it. The rate at which it happened is just odd...

I don't think anyone gives out their domain names on this forum

I just checked everything out again and the domain was unlocked and transferred within 45 minutes. It has to be an employee.

well from what I understand..to have it transferred outside the company it takes like a week. Depending on the host may be different..ideally he is switching the account first to another account on godaddy. Then he is attempting to transfer it to another registrar before you notice or do anything. Since the account is already switched..your not aware the domain is currently in queue to be transferred.
Its possible not saying its happening

Good call appleman. That is the best way to cover your tracks.

The domain register will tell you it takes 7 days but I got it transferred to my godaddy account from another company within 24 hours. The seller was anxious to get the escrow money so he probably encouraged them to push it faster. It is still a much longer process than 45 minutes though.

Godaddy ended up pulling through faster than expected. They got it back in my account in about 48 hours. I did have to scan my drivers license, send articles of incorporation, and fill out some form they had but it all got taken care of.

The guy that stole it is still a douche bag.

have you had any follow up from godaddy regarding who it was and how they managed it?

Would probably be worth writing an ebook to sell. How to protect yourself against domain thieves, and what to do if it happens. Sounds like you've built up some good knowledge about this.
