Question is, should I start covering related topics?
My domain name and content is very specific to the niche.

Example:
Lets say my niche is a specific Japanese instrument (Koto).
And my domain name is Koto.com
Should I start covering other Japanese instruments?
What about Japanese music not even related to the Koto.
Or Japanese culture? Japanese food?

How far can I stretch it?

Hey,

Hopefully, you have learnt through this that the basis of building any website (and any business in general) is planning. Normally, you should have made researches before starting the site and then now you wouldn't face this "issue".

"Issue' because I don't think this is such a big problem. With one of my sites I committed the same mistake. Domain was also specific to the nice. When I realized that, I just made subpages on the website covering topics related to the niche of the site. This is quite common and it works well.

I suppose your main concern is that for example someone will search for a keyword related to japanese culture, your site pops up in Top 3 let's say but the person won't click through to your site because he/she will see that the domain is about a specific Japanese instrument. This logic makes sense but people who are not working in this field think differently than us. So, back to my example, I created subpages that were related to the niche of the site but were not exactly in the niche. Once these related pages started ranking for its keywords, the click through rate from the SEs were not any worse than for the main keywords of the niche of the site.

So, all in all based on this I have learnt that normal people (who you are targeting) care less about these stuff than we, internet marketers do.

This is my experience, maybe someone else has something else to share :)

Yes, I knew I was rushing without thorough research, but my young IM soul was excited to get started.
Thanks for the response.
