If Im looking to build a site around a niche what stats should I be looking out for while researching my keyword?

Im planning on having a linkwhell done, backlinks from directories and MAYBE a bit of xrumer.

So what competition should I look for max. (1000)?

Cheers.

Ps - Ive been told to look for less than 1000 comp (allintitle) when looking for niches to exploit.

If I increased that to 2000 Id have lots more options on what I can promotoe but the competition would also be double... ho-hum!

Cheers

i think you're in the wrong forum if you ask question like this here especially when you know how useful xrumer is. and the most funniest thing, you show that u know how to do keyword research, yet you ask like this is the first time to make ur own properties on the net. seriously, i can't accept it from anyone who know/own xrumer to speak like this. no offense but it's the fact.

Yeah I know how to do research but Im wondering if I should aim higher than 1000 comp.

Ive learned so much about seo in the past month but still not sure about how high comp # I should go as I dont want to waste money buying domains, using linkwheels and getting a blast of xrumer.

Just give me a number!!! :D cheers mate

Hi, 1000-2000 a day seems too low, I mean if you find a keyword with a lot of searches and that much competition it's a goldmine, but that's not too realistic. I'd say allintitle: 10,000 for starters. It really depends on the quality of the competition, sometimes you can rank for 100,000.

Cheers trigger, you say 1000-2000 seems too low. Are you talking about comp levels or page searches here?

for non-xrumer i use broad<1.5 mil, phrase<60k, and intitle<1k.

don't omit the broad criteria or it will bite you in the bottom.

That's pretty spot on.

Of course it all depends on your seo experience and how confident you are. It also depends on the number of results but also if anyone is optimising for these phrases.

Ok, got a nice long tail kw that have the following stats:

Regular Search: 877,000 results

Phrase: 220,000 (bit high...)

Allintitle: (only!) 847

An EZine and GOarticle articles are ranked #1 and #2 for the kw.

Domain with kw in title, proper tags, good content, decent landing page and a few linkwheels and blasts of xrumer... #1 position doable?

Before anyone says just go and do it, I will guys. After I get anothe rproject done this week. Just want to know if I work on it will it rank well.

Cheers

Cheers squelsh. What do you recommend I do?

Do I need a ton of content for the site or will a bare bones one do?

How many blasts of xrumer do you suggest and how many linkwheels should I set up?

If there are any ebooks that provide all this info please let me know as I hate asking newb qs all the time! :)

That's pretty damn good dude.

I wouldn't worry about Allintitle, SEO Comp numbers etc. Just focus on the top10 - that's who you're competing with really. Are they authority sites? If an ezine is ranking #1 you can own it with another ezine article with a decent amount of views/backlinks and drive around 40 visits a day to your landing page. (you can buy views/ratings for under $5 for ezines). If there's less than 2 allinurl, allintitle and not many backlinks with KW as anchor (use backlinkwatch for this) you can dominate the front page pretty quickly. Vary your backlinks campaign and optimize your pages within the main site to rank for longer-tail KW's while your main site is ranking. Use your Ezine as the 'babysitter' while you're waiting to rank to drive traffic and test the conversions of your landing page. Stick with this strategy and you'll be sweeet!

Cheers

Thanks croixstar dude.

Heres the first page stats:

1st site actually changed to some other site! lol

2 ezinearticle articles and one goarticle at positions #2, 3, and 4 respectively.

PR rankings in desending order for the 1st page results: 3, 2, 2, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0! Not bad at all :)

There are 0 URLindomains and 4 sites with the kw in title.

Also, I noticed there are yahoo answers and youtube vid pages listed in top 10.

The kw is nice too, its typically written by someone looking for something FAST! :)

One thing going against me is the domain ages for some of the sites - a few years old in most cases. My domain will be new. ugh.

Any other tips welcome. Thanks again.

hmmm,

so if my keyword is "paid market research" and google is showing a broad match of <30,000,000 no go? the rest of the criteria looks really good.

And what would figures would you go for when you're using xrumer?

do not make the decision based on the no. of competition. That means there are high chances of missing the gold mine some times.Instead use this method:

1.see the number of links for the top serp positions,
2.see what anchor text they have targeted.sometimes the top serp will be a pr 4 but would have lot of unrelated keyword anchored links or links that do not have an anchor at all !!!! so do not be fooled by the pR.See the anchor they have used mostly.

how do u find out what anchor mccullum? Thanks

Try the following...

1. Create 2 unique articles for your chosen keyword and submit one to EZA and the other one to goarticle.

2. Spin the two original articles and submit them to as many article directories as possible. Important: The spun article you created from the EZA article should link back to the original EZA article and the spun article from the goarticle article should point to the original goarticles article. This way you get many backlinks right from the beginning.

3. Get as many additional one-way backlinks from authority sites as possible linking to the EZA and goarticles articles (Try even to get a few QUALITY backlinks from .edu and/or .gov sites). Check amount and quality of the backlinks that point to the highly ranked competitor articles and get more and better backlinks.

4. Create several linkwheels for each of the original articles.

5. And, of course, bookmark and ping everything and submit the rss feeds.

This should enable you to outrank the competitor's articles. You have even 2 chances (EZA and goarticles). And, since both articles point to your money site, it will get good rankings eventually too.

Hope this helps.
