Sorry buddy, but PR in itself is what I consider a noob metric. Especially in a post-penguin era, having relevant backlinks is what it will take to rank. Good onpage SEO and content helps as well. Good luck chasing the green bar fairy!

I think PR updates are somewhat random. It usually happens about twice a year or so. The last one was around 2 months ago, so it'll be some time.

Been also waiting eagerly myself, because while as a metric it's useless, it's nice to get a (false) sense of doing something right over the course of time.

While PR is BS and we know that... it matters to a lot of people who think that it's actually important and for that reason higher PR could = more profit especially if you want to sell the site, back links, or build a blog network.

PR in and of itself is not necessarily a metric for rankings BUT it does give you an idea of the sites linking into the site you are getting a link from. I am not sure if I have seen a high PR site that simply had a bunch of crappy links, typically there are at least a good handful of links coming in from other quality sites to get that boost. In other words it gives you a baseline to determine (relative to other sites) what type of quality the site/page you are linking from has.

But overall for ranking, I see low PR sites beating the crap out of high PR sites for ranking all the time.

I'm considering changing my sig to "Don't quit your dayjob" and a link to McDonald's jobs page below it. Would save me from typing it in every retarded thread. Could just go "See sig!"
