There was before Sep 11th! If the police wanted to tap your phone or view your mail they would have to apply for a warrent to the supreme court, give evidence why etc and then issue you the warrent to explain why! However since that law was abolished they can do what ever they want under the new anti terrorism laws

He probably got a list and sent out a few million "please change password/please log in again" emails directed to a fake facebook page. Not that hard.

this shows well the IQ of the average facebook user... close to 0...

This may be true, but not every facebook user think as internet marketer or hacker. Many of them don't know to use PC except turn on/off. Also, i bet that at least 90% facebook users don't know that ads on facebook are actually ads...
they think that is part of facebook because they are very well blended.

So from their point of view, it would be "why would someone need my password ?" and they don't care about hard passwords so they just put something that is easy to remember, like their first/last/nick name.

Do you think it would be hard to create same page as facebook main page and trick them to login to that (fake) one? guess what...

Facebook, betting sites, walmart all use external companies to profile your online activity anyway. Who the hell needs a password? A password doesnt really do anything! All the information anyone wants or needs has already been logged or recorded!

I completely agree with you. Most people don't imagine that somebody may hack their account.

Maybe the hacker tested the password '12345' on every facebook account to match the password. He have a technique/bot that do it automatically.

This is why it's important to hide your email address in your profile (simply select 'Only me' who can see your email). I think this is the most secure way nobody will try to hack your account.

Why do people in this thread assume others are stupid?

I bet this is password related. Did anyone see the old 80's film hackers where they took the mick cause so many sys admins used god as the root password. Same thing I bet a ton of people use a name or letmein123 or something along those lines. Massive proxy list (or more likely a bot net) and some centralised automation software = big problem for facebook.

You guys are fucking retarded . Do you guys think they really go and crack those passwords?

No they actually use spy eye v1.0 and Zeus, look it up if you dont know what it is. But thats how most 'hackers' are stealing accounts they have a bot network of infected computers sniffing passwords all the time.

Sucks to be American:rolleyes: They still can't do that here in Norway, here they still have to apply for a warrant which is hard to get if it's not an extremely important case.

It can't be a Password stealer bot. Having Facebook account login is pretty much useless as Facebook asks for birthday if you're logging in from unusual location.

So, if this is true and those accounts are fully functional they have to have birthdays (as added on Facebook) or those who buy them would not be able to make a successful login. And that's not likely to happen since you can't have a look at someone's year of birth even if you're his friends. You can see only day and month, not a year.

I've been logging in Facebook from two different countries, I was never asked to provide my birthday. And you can choose if your full date if birth is shown in your profile or not (to everybody, just friends or just for you). Everybody is able to see the birthday, month and year if you allow it.
