Big news from FB. Not sure how they will enforce this but it will definitely affect a lot of IMers.

    ---------------------

Yesterday, Facebook tweaked its Platform Policies, and while some of the changes are subtle, there's one which is very welcome: from now, the concept of offering access to apps or content in return for Likes is banned.

Straight outta the mouth of Zuckerberg & Co., the new rule reads like this:

You must not incentivize people to use social plugins or to like a Page. This includes offering rewards, or gating apps or app content based on whether or not a person has liked a Page. It remains acceptable to incentivize people to login to your app, checkin at a place or enter a promotion on your app's Page. To ensure quality connections and help businesses reach the people who matter to them, we want people to like Pages because they want to connect and hear from the business, not because of artificial incentives. We believe this update will benefit people and advertisers alike.

We certainly think it'll benefit people. The changes have to be put in place by developers by November 5 2014. That gives them 90 days.

Pretty much if your site has a social locker, and Facebook notices, they ban your domain/URL...

In simpler terms, what does this mean? I use Like4Like etc and I suppose the points accumalated there could be considered an incentive. Will this affect sites like that? Sorry for sounding naive, but I'm kinda new here.

@atticanibal, check out this popular video that goes through case studies of "legit" paid ad to get like on a fanpage and the fake like it generated. The video goes through why it happens. The video has been viewed over 2.7 million times...lots of good info.

Damn, so many companies will get hit with this. That just means real SMM comes into play and people must learn it.

Well that's frustrating. Should we be removing the social lockers ASAP? I suppose we can still lock with twitter or google+.. for Facebook I will just use a like jacker then haha

They've always let big brands and pages get away with it, but they've been banning domains and even sending out C&Ds for this sort of stuff since 2010.

This will hurt legit businesses presence on FB in the short term, but it's actually good news for the black hatters who don't care about platform policies. I predict edge rank for Likes will experience a bit of an increase in the near future :D

I think that participating in like exchange programs has always been against the rules. https://developers.facebook.com/policy#socialplugins

Well this sucks bad. My service URLocker.pw and iLink.pw might get hit by this. I guess we'll see if they enforce this severely or not.

Looks like my domain URLocker.pw is already blocked.

I'll probably just remove the like button and keep the twitter and google +1.

This sucks...Thanks for the notice btw OP.

Edit: Never mind. There was an error with some code actually. The domain is not blocked and it still seems to work.

You will eventually hit the confirm button, and then an app ban even domain ban soon after if you keep going. It's inevitable when you're forcing users to act on any of FB's social plugins.

Way back in the day people were spinning dozens, even hundreds of domain names to keep the viral effect going. It's can be very tough these days unless you know all the little workarounds.

That's a nice looking site though. Looks like you put some work in. Props!

Yea I get that. When FaceBook does strike, I'll probably just remove the like button. I won't quit or shut the websites down just because of FaceBook. Although it is a big hit.

I'd like to be able to add a Stumbleupon, or even Reddit button locker.

Also thanks about the site. I actually just recently started it so seeing this happen kind of sucks.
