First, let me say that there is nothing new, earth shattering or genius about this idea. It's simply something I've done that's made my early days in IM a little easier. I found a business partner.
My partner lives close by and he's one of my better friends so were able to talk things over and see each other as much as needed. This helps but probably isn't necessary. Our business relationship works something like this. He makes a lot of money but has little time to invest and knows almost nothing about IM. He's smart enough to know that there's a lot of money to be made on-line and he was interested in creating another stream of income for himself and family. I live paycheck to paycheck but I have a lot of time to invest and I've spent the last year lurking on forums and studying everything I can get my hands on. I've learned a lot. I learned enough to "sell" a very smart guy on the idea of going into business with me. He puts up any needed funding and I do all the work. All profits are divided equally 50/50. The great thing is that he's an experienced marketer and salesman in the "real" world so he realizes that not everything we try is going to be a "homerun". He knew going in and I made it very clear that there would be some growing pains and some failure. Overall we've been profitable but almost everything we make is reinvested back into the business. Also, we created a corporation. We'd both prefer to not lose everything we own if we get sued. I'm not going into all the details about what we do but I will say that teaming up was a great decision. One additional bonus, my partner has become very interested in IM and has begun educating himself and coming up with some of his own ideas. The best thing is were having fun, were learning everyday and were exited about the future.
To sum this up it's been a great experience and continues to be. It's given me the gift of not having to worry about every dollar or how I'm going to pay for something. I would like to ad that it's not like were spending 1000's. I'm talking about basic IM costs. Domains, hosting, software investments, site design, monthly memberships...etc.
One last thing. I can hear a lot of you newbs already. I've been lurking for a year and I know you guys...better than you know yourselves Your thinking "Yea, great post gun-shy but this will never work for me. Thanks for nothing." "I don't have any friends." "I don't know anyone with money." "Everyone thinks I'm a loser." "No one would ever believe in me." Blah, blah, blah. I'll admit, not everyone can do this. Some of you are pathetic losers
All I'll say is that a lot of you probably know more than you realize and that there are a lot of people out there, with money, looking to create an extra income. You might even no one of them? Go find someone!
Good Luck,
gun-shy
P.S. Where there is a will, there is a way...
