Question: Suppose you have an email list of 100k. Do you re-use that email list after you've finished your email campaign? If so, what's the general rule of thumb for exhausting that list? (Assuming these are legit emails, not scraped)

*note: If this isn't the appropriate forum, please move. Thanks.

Well your first batch of emails you send out you need to make them count. Of course you reuse the list.
If its an opt in list then send out newsletters like once a week, but if it's just scrapped emails then blast
    different offers.

Use it efficiently 3-4 times and then swap it with equivalent list.

a list of 100.000 should be able to make you 100.000$ a month if you go about your email marketing correctly.... but i am guessing that is not the case with you, so the list is either very un-responsive, and/or not legit.. e.a you didnt build that list the traditional ethical way.... in that case i would blast CB offers and solo ads from third parties everyday untill it totally dies... and then just trow it away

What autorepsonder have you guys used when first starting out? and were you also able to create Landing pages with the Autoresponder too?

First of all, that 100k list are Opt-in or you scraped emails?
You need to find how much of them opened the email and are active, how many others requested to stop sending emails and so on. You need to give something before selling something. Try to think a good strategy mate.

Thanks for all the responses guys.

The emails technically aren't scraped. A buddy of mine runs events in a certain industry and has amassed them over the years. So technically, they opted-in with him, NOT me.

New Question: Given the fact they haven't 'opted in' with me, can I add an 'unsubscribe' button at the bottom of the message and still email them legally?

Johnny: Did you say you can make 100k/month with a list of 100k emails??

YES, the industry standard is that you can make 1$ per subscriber per month, but this is when you build the list yourself in a legit way and treat them well :)

Given that it has taken him years to build this list, and he hasn't done anything with it, I wouldn't expect much out of it. Your emails likely won't get opened unless you're taking over his mailing service like Mailchimp, Getresponse, etc.

Essentially, that list is just as good as any scraped list, but at least it's targeted.

provided you have an clean email list which is not scraped and is targeted, its highly recommended to reuse the list..but again if you just gonna spam it out with some offer, it definitely wont yield you good results , the best way will be to build a relationship with them, build some reputation before actually trying to sell everything!

Provided the list is not opted in to you, you could ask you friend to run a campaign on your behalf promoting your stuff and redirecting them to your optin/subscription page... assuming you are providing something of a value...

money is in the list is almost an old adage in email marketing!
building a relationship is something new which people end up forgetting....

So I guess the question that remains is: How would one go about creating a new relationship with these people? Granted my friend doesn't endorse me. People don't like reading email newsletters. From your experiences, what would be the best approach as a first email?

Well, it is targeted audience. Find a product they would want then send your first batch of emails.

See how many of them convert after a week or two,

If the number is very high then you should build a relationship. Or genuinely spam them, one email per week.

If number is low then either they don't read email or they aren't that targeted after all (last option, your message was crap).

    Send -> Analyze -> Improve -> Send
You don't have to send to whole lot of your list, you could choose 100-1000 of them for test purposes.

Yeah, people don't read newsletters and lengthy boring sales pitches. Don't beat around the bush, keep it short and cut to the chase.
