ok, so this started out as a reply to a thread and I decided to move it to its own thread because I kind of got carried away and felt it may help alot of the newbs out there... and I know this has been done before, but I just thought I'd throw my perspective out there to help motivate a few people.

Me? I am a newb myself so what could I possibly offer? perspective I guess... I think most newbies have a common misconception about how everything goes together, so I have an 'example' of a 'method' that puts alot of different things together that I think a newb will appreciate... so here goes...

This was a message I was going to send to someone who had lost their motivation to continue exploring IM, feels he has been scammed into buying alot of e-books and coaching and whatnot... He was challenging someone to "PROVE" to him that you can make money online... Here is my reply (with the proof:)

I feel you dude, this is very frustrating to get started, and I fell for a few 'scams' too, but I feel lucky that I fell for them actually... Because at some point I had this appifany, or whatever you want to call it... Like riding a bike, it just all the sudden made sense... there is a 'bigger picture' over all of this that I think everyone who is actually making money with this stuff has to grasp before they can really sart making any money... Once you can see the 'big picture' It spurs a whole new mindset actually... Once you get there you can see everything in a whole new way... For example those 'scams' I 'fell for' were really not 'scams' at all... They may not have been as 'valuable' as they seemed at the time, and were full of lies and deceptive mind-fucking-strategies, BUT once you have your own 'appifany' you will begin to see the whole thing as the 'art form' that it is:) The whole idea of IM (at least to me) is being able to get into the mind of your target market and convince them that they can't live without your wiz-bang offer (whatever that may be)... The idea of 'blackhat' is using some not-so-necessarily-up-and-up-methods to either achieve traffic, or using some sort of trickery and everyone has a different idea of what blackhat means or where its moral limits lie.

So, I accept your challenge to prove that it is possible to make money online! And here is the proof that you required... Go look at your checking account and look at the transactions for all the 'crap' you said you bought and know this, you gave that money to an internet marketer! And believe me, you are not the only one who gave them some money. That marketer did exactly what he set out to do... he got into your head and convinced you to buy their wiz-bang e-book or software or whatever and you bought it. You have to look at this from a different angle and turn the tables around from being a CONSUMER to a MARKETER.

So, what do I get for winning this challenge? How about you go fill out a few of my CPA offers or buy one of my e-books? hehehe

The above sentence WAS just gonna be a real subtle hint (like you see alot of around here), but i decided to give you a freebie instead... Since you like the idea of a "CHALLENGE" and you obviously got a pretty descent response to your thread, why don't you go make a website with some sort of challenge... Challenge people to "GO GREEN" or for example.. Go out and promote it (which you should have learned how to do already from your coaching I would imagine, if not then look for go search out info right here in this forum on article marketing, youtube, twitter, myspace, xrummer, whatever) drive some traffic to your "challenge", get people to sign up to take your "GREEN CHALLENGE" (make a survey type website with a bunch of environmental questions) and at the end you ask for their email and you will send them a rating for how GREEN they are... You will have to use your own imagination here and add a few twists of your own...

Now then... you have a ton of ways to make money with this... For starters you could keep it somewhat 'simple' and just iframe a CPA offer for an email or zip submit... Or you could really squeeze it and start building a mailing list (go sign up for getresponse.com or aweber.com or something may be easiest (note I could have just given you an aff link to an email blaster if I really had my marketing hat on but I am really just trying to help you, and I dont do that on BHW (and you shouldn't either, but all other forums are FAIR GAME as far as I'm concerned (hint hint, some people make their whole living whoring around on forums looking for people like you... and soon enough you will begin to recognize it for what it is, and more importantly LEARN from what they are doing:)) anyway... I got side tracked there... so you got your list now so then you start sending out CPA offers to your list for "GREEN" shit... e-book offers for "GREEN" crap (there's lots of stuff out there on clickbank for this niche)... Then if you want to squeeze every last dime out of it a year or 2 from now when (and if) your list ever dries up you sell the damn thing to some poor sap on DP:) But, "Green" I believe is going to be the rage for as long as Obama is president... Now, be forwarned, I am not doing this with this 'niche' personally so I cannot guarantee you will be successful because it is one of those highly competitive niches these days (I was sorta in the "Save the Whales" game 10 years ago, and it was big then, and this GREEN thing is even bigger)... I just made this up off the top of my head, and I SHOULD do this one myself, but I know I won't cuz I'm too damn buzy right now with 4 other projects that I DID NOT FIND ON ANY FORUM NOR ANY E-BOOK.... That is bolded for a reason, cuz its the most important thing I've said I think... You can't just follow what someone else tells you to do verbatim... USUALLY when someone gives away a method on a forum or in an e-book it is because they already did it and it dried up and doesn't work nearly as good as it used too, OR is something that they did not do at all (like the above method I just made up)... But nothing is ever exact.. Nothing in my 'method' is anything NEW for dam sure, but the idea is you combine methods and apply them to your niche in every way possible to maximize your success.... Note, most people never do anything, they keep reading and reading and reading... jumping from one thing to another and never understanding the big picture of how it can all come together once they come up with their own idea... You can see from the above we have combined many different things... you can use anything to drive traffic to your website... twitter, youtube, myspace, blog spamming, forum posting, and of course SEO, many different link buliding strategies (ie link wheels are all the rage)... You capture all that web traffic with your 'challenge' method (or a contest, enter to win free shit, or whatever... get creative) and save that to email, which you then use to continually market to your 'customers' products and/or services that relate to that niche... Its really not rocket science or any kind of voodoo... But there is NO SUCH THING AS A "GET RICH QUICK" nor is there any sort of "Make $94,000 a month on auto-pilot" that does not require 5 years or HARD WORK in advance! hahah

The other key is to not give up... the de-facto standard figure thrown around is that 95% of people give up on IM because it 'doesn't make any money'... But what I believe happens is, the thrill of this get-rich-quick sales pitches that get people started in this to start with is so over-inflated that people seem to think they can make boatloads of cash instantly... When they realise there is still work involved they get turned off and lose motivation... Believe me, I understand this... and once again you have to change your thinking, or actually expand it and think about this little formula... volume + time = $$$ Volume refers to the number of methods and/or sites you build, and time refers to the age of the websites... Generally speaking the longer a site is up the more traffic it will get as you promote it more... with BH sites that is not always the case, nor is it the case with certain time-sensitive sites... Example a site about "Octo-Mom" would have generated massive traffic when the term was first coined, and would be tapering off a little now, and be old news in a year (unless the dumb bitch gets a tv show)...

So, I'll wrap this up with an experiment for newbies. Put your thinking caps on and lets debate what could be done with the niche of "Octo Mom" (hope I'm not stomping on anybodies niche here heheh) Lets say you owned "octomom.com" how would you monetize this site? How would you drive your traffic?

hahah, I just went there to see what was there and this is the perfect example cuz that is OBVIOUSLY not anyone's website from here and if it is then you need this thread anyway! In no way am I an expert or a guru, but I think it would be a fun experiment to debate the whole process of putting together a concept.

I have to say, very good post. As a 'newb' here myself, I'm just starting out in the 'dark side', but I am very confident that given some time, I will be helping others in the way that I'm being helped here now. I'm reading over as many posts as I can, learning complete techniques and am just beginning to work two of them ('Secret Admirer' and 'free gift card giveaway' on CL - then I already gave it away, but you can get one yourself here...)

I believe that if we apply what we learn here and am willing to work it (and ad a twist helps so we're not all doing the same exact thing), we can really make money. I was shocked at how many people are making really decent money (according to 'how much do you make via CPA)... true, noone was posting a picture of a bank statement. I don't need to see that to know people are making bank using these techniques. It was enough to motivate the hell out of me!

As I told my fiance, I'm not expecting riches overnight... but if I see a few bucks earned, that's a start. Then we test, test, test and test some more. Run 1000 through with this CPA, run 1000 through with a slightly different technique... One thing I can point out to other newbies - ONLY CHANGE ONE THING AT TIME... aka, you try something and earn $10... then you change one thing (the offer, a difference in the technique...) and you earn $25 - now you know something that made a difference. If you changed two things, you don't know which one was what made what you were doing more effective. ;)

Just my .02 worth... maybe a bit more. lol

great to hear you've got started ther oldsalt! If you have taken action, you are already in the TOP 5%! Somehow I keep seeing you in alot of the same threads I'v been reading so I know you are on the right path:) I am also setting up a really elaborate CL game myself... I simply can't give it away cuz its something I've never seen before and I *KNOW* its going to work. I'm putting ALOT of prep work into it building a website that supports the whole thing.... Which reminds me, thats another thing a newb has to know, and its been said on here a million times, but it can't be said enough... ***NOBODY*** is going to hand you the keys to their method if they are making a killing on it! They may toss out some vague references, or bits and pieces of it but anybody who has anything REALLY GREAT is not even going to do that until they have worn it out or did not perform as expected... e-books are really iffy I must say... Most are regurgitated crap, but the real value in them (for me) is they sometimes trigger a whole new thing when you tear it all apart and bring it down to the brass tacks of what it really is... Its pretty easy to get caught up in them though... The only real way to make any money is to GET STARTED... Take a general concept that appes to you and stick to that one thing for a little while... Each 'thing' usually has a bunch of different variations to it. Pick one variation and try it... test it, refine it, and most importantly make it your OWN and then OWN IT! Then start branching out in the same 'thing' but using some of the other variations and refine and own those... then when you are comfortable branch out into other things...

A big part of the 'problem' many people have (me included) is trying to do TOO MUCH... You gotta clear your plate a little and focus, set REALISTIC goals on what you want to do and what you want to accomplish TODAY, TOMORROW, THIS WEEK, THIS MONTH, THIS QUARTER and THIS YEAR... Literally fir up excel or word or notepad or whatever and start making your schedule for what you are going to do each day this week. you will be AMAZED at how motivated you will be as you see your master plan unfold into a course of action, and start checking things off as you do them...

Yep, we've started... in the last 12 hours we sent out 110 emails and so far have 26 clicks and 5 conversions for a whopping $6.75 earned... (via our freebie giftcard giveaway). The 'secret admirer' will take a couple of weeks to get cranking since we don't want our 'marks' to figure that the one led to the other. Once we get that going well, we're going to phase to emails that are delayed 1 month after initial contact. ;)

Thanks for the encouragment - and good luck to you in our new endeavor - I hope it works well for you!
