Newbee question about blog farming.

I'm very new to blog farming (ad black hat SEO)...I read some threads here about blog farming but I'm confused. I know this is such a newbee question but if you have a minute to spend, could you answere this?

I've seen threads where you guys are talking about how you make a farm. With beutiful "maps" and arrows and everythig. But I don't get very simple basic thing!


When you make a farm, do you usually aim to give 1 site in the farm all the juice? (Therefore the target site?)

Or, do you make the farm just so that Google can't find they are all related sites? (So you put link(s) to the target site(s) from each of the blogs?)

If the former, the target site only gets 1 backlink. Maybe that backlink is strog but it seems such an effort for 1 backlink. But It seemed the way(s) it is described in some threads in this forum is this way. Is that the case?

There are many ways to use a blog farm but a "typical" use for it is to build up a, somewhat interlnked, farm which builds the link juice of the farm as a whole and then have each property in the farm point to a site outside the farm (i.e a money site).

Your target site will get a backlink from each property in the farm which will help its ranking. Combined with agressive linking to the farm, the power of the 2nd level links to your money site get increasingly stronger yet your money site will be a level removed from any over-agressive linkbuilding that may result in any sort of penalty to a property in the farm. Only the "disposable" farm property is at risk for being too agressive versus your intended money site.

Very nice way of explaining this. My farm is just starting to bring in a little money from Adsense, and one CPA. I am still waiting for the main site to get some page rank.
