I created 2 new websites for 2 totally different affiliate products about 2 weeks ago. They are new products so almost no competition. I got partial match domain for one and exact match .net domain for another. Wrote about 1000+ words High quality content for the front page and created contact, privacy, about and terms page(no content on these, I always add later).

After a few days, I created about 7 naked url link for the partial match domain. I checked the ranking after a couple of days, all my inner pages(contact, privacy, about and terms page) are ranking on 2nd page for main keywords instead of my main page. Same is happening with the other website but without any link.

I created a brand new website about a month ago, did the same things like I did with the above two. That website is ranking on the 1st page for the main keyword without any issue.

I really don't know what happened, any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

    Thanks

With time, your homepage will replace those pages. And when it happens, your homepage will rank at an even higher position. It's normal for internal pages to rank above the homepage when Google indexes a new site or discovers new links to a domain with no authority.

The pages you don't want to rank high, Put a no follow attribute from pages it is getting linked(internal). It is the reason why no-index attribute is introduced by google(as they say).

I usually add a meta no-index for those pages I don't want to rank. It will prevent pages from being indexed.

true that! Always no-index and no-follow your contact/privacy/disclosure/tos and other irrelevant pages

That's not really a bad thing at the moment and should end up boosting your main page to that position.

I had this issue with one of my websites. The About and Contact page were outranking the main page, although this issue resolved itself after a month, so you can either wait it out or use one of the helpful methods suggested above this post. :D

Just install Yoast (if on wordpress) and no index them. Easy peasy.
