So what is this crap? They better spend 1.7mln. gallons of water (64 millions litres) by tracking people, what they do and break our privacy than giving money to countries that need money to survive? I cant stand when I watch TV and always see that there is no water for Africa etc, but I mostly hate their seeing us

    Shit on you NSA ;)

Dumbasses should have gone with a gaming gpu setup, and not so much cpu's.

For around $2,000,000 , you could build a 4.7 petaflop supercomputer using the gtx titan.

Yes, because gathering data now requires overly huge GPU computational calculations, the same way of breaking a bitcoin hash. Turn those petaflops into petabytes and you just got yourself a decent NSA center ;)

You can write programs for GPU's besides playing video games and breaking a hash.

That was not my point. My point was that CPU workloads are much better fitted than GPUS for Hadoop-based NoSQL databases, such as the ones as NSA. And the biggest bottleneck here isn't even CPUS or GPUS, it's simply storage.

I dont get it, so what if it takes water to cool the systems, they cant recycle it?

If they are actually burning up that much water, someone did a piss poor job in designing the cooling system.

someone explain to me where all that water is going, it cant possibly be boiled down to nothing, right?

But couldn't they code their own type of databases so that they can use GPU's to speed it up? With ramdisk for short term needs, SSD for medium, and HD's for long term?

Definitely not all but you should probably take a science class.

Then again who knows how they use the water...

I hope your trolling, because that does not explain how 1.7 million gallons of water is used up daily.
obviously they are using it up, but damn I worked at an aluminum foundry and those dies gets hot enough to melt aluminum and they didn't use up millions of gallons of water a day keeping everything cooled down.

    This is crazy shit

    Damn straight.
Also, that's not even 'coding your own type of databases', it's just caching...

How do they even get statistics like this and are accurate?
Did the cleaning lady tattle on them at a firemans ham dinner meeting or what?
