New twist on an old CL method

This is my first post where I am actually contributing a method, and I'm doing it because I've learned quite a bit from BHW and am looking to give back.

A while back I saw a post about going onto craiglist, and putting up an ad with a car for sale. Once people started emailing you, redirect them to a credit check offer by saying something like "I can only deal with people who are serious in buying, so I need you to get a quick credit report here and then shoot me an email back.

Of course that would be an affiliate link and you would come up $15-30. Now I'm thinking that can still work well, buy why not make a listing in the "Free" section of CL with a crappy car, saying that it runs but needs some work, high mileage, etc. I would think you would get a LOT more emails with people interested in a "free" car, then send them to a free insurance offer, get a few bucks off from that offer to "prove that they are able to get insurance in the first place" Then when they respond back, tell them something like "Thank you, but I also need you to get a copy of your credit report here", which will also be an affiliate link to experian or transunion, for registration/title transfer/make something else up, and tell them that there is "2 other people interested in the car as well and since I want it off my hands, whoever can get the credit report first will be the person who can come pick up the car". If they do it, theres another $20 at least for you, if not, then they already gave you $1-3 with a submit offer.

Any comments or questions would be welcomed.

So.....when the first person calls with the credit report you say...oh sorry, someone beat you to it. I don't know about this.

Hmm not to pick holes in your method. But if your going to be giving away a crap car then why would they need a credit report? They are paying this off over a term... They aren't even paying it off at all.

Also, if it's such a crap car why would they buy insurance on it? and why would the seller need to know if they can get insurance on it?


No offence intended and I congratulate you for thinking outside of the box But just make sure that even the semi-wise people will be fooled when doing something like this.

Nobody calls, its just through email, and yes, basically said someone beat you to it.

All cars need at least liability, and people are going to be all happy with the word "Free" in front of "car", they might be willing to jump through all kinds of hoops for it. My first run at it got probably 70-80 emails, 6 conversions so far, havent sent the second batch of emails to those people yet, waiting a little longer. It also got flagged when like 3 people posted in the free section their own ads saying they wanted it, and some guy posted the cut/paste email I was sending out to everyone.

So the lesson here: Wait several hours before the first batch of emails are sent out.

Yea not a bad method. IF you do a delay in the emails like:
"Hey some other people are interested but I need a credit check"
THEN
"Hey the car is no longer for sale"

You can use this with an auto responder to cut back your time. You also might want to include the affiliate link in there so you don't get flagged as often.

This might get you banned with CL as they are anal now. You can try other places and it will probably work. Not a bad method I must say since they pay $30 for a credit check on some CPA offers.

I think a delay would work wonders. I ran this last night, had around 70 emails, 11 first level conversions, and at least 1 2nd level (credit check) conversion

think this works better if you are renting a house or apartment ... most people don't finance their own car sales.

This looks like an interesting idea that can be mined deeper..
I suggest going for boats and bigger luxuty stuff, people buying such things are way more relaxed and open minded, and following instructions is something they are opne to do. market will be elderly people who barely knows the web..

Yep, elderly and retired people, never mind what market or direction you look for this people tend to have full pockets and pretty basic knowledge of current life issues.

Ok this is getting darker so I better return to my oldy niche.
