    Hi community.

    My name is Josh,
I'm a 22 y/o hard working family man, with honest intentions of looking for a mentor or guidance

I'm new to the world of SEO and was looking for some guidance one where to start and just general help.
I have a good amount of free time on my hands and thought I would take the time and try to learn this stuff.

After researching programs and seeing the prices I was a bit worried since I don't have the kind of funds to afford that at this point, nor do I know how to properly use them to make them the most effective.

So was wondering if someone here would like to assist me and maybe mentor me on some software and effective ways to use them if possible??

I cant really offer much for anyone's time but maybe in the future I can help work for them or something to repay their time and efforts in teaching me..

You can pm me on here and maybe we can skype and go from there?

thanks for everyone's time and consideration,
and hope i'm not out of line by posting this.
    Regards,
    Josh

maybe you should spend your time on research instead of approaching a mentor or have you given up on IM?

I am researching on my own, but it would still be nice to have a make a friend that I can email,IM, skype, or what not when I have a question or need further guidance.

I'm just a little lost on where I even begin, I don't really have much capital to invest in much so trying to learn what I can before I waist money on something useless or that I can't properly use.

I know research is key, but so is properly understanding everything.

The only way to "properly understand" shit is to do it yourself, fail at it, and learn from those failures. Theres more than enough in these forum to get you started.

I have to agree with everyone else. When it comes to SEO, you really need to invest the time into learning the basics. I recommend reading an introductory SEO book. Study it like a bible. After you have the basics down, and you start to implement what you've learned, that's when you're going to run into personalized questions that can't be answered by a book. As someone else alluded to, you can bring those questions to BHW and you will have plenty of "mentors" willing to give advice.

You'd be doing yourself a disservice though if you just had someone hold your hand every step of the way.

Ok so far 3 people responded, and not one with a helpful word of advice...

I understand the research part, working on that, but that doesn't help me understand certain aspects of things, or fully help me understand where to even start.

Simply just looking for a person to help point me in the right direction, not snotty comments that are just saying do it yourself.
Yes I understand there are hundreds of thousands of threads here. but that doesn't help me figure our where to start. I mean yea I can spend a few months searching though them, but still not helping me figure out where to start. just people with their own questions.

I'm not going to go out and spends a few hundred off the bat on programs I can put to use or can't properly use and understand how they work.

If your going to just comment research and do it your self. please just move along and don't waist your time.

    thanks.

The introductory SEO book? A specific book you can recommend?

Post #'s 2, 3, 5, and 6 were very helpful and as helpful as you will get here. If you would rather be spoonfed or just don't like to read, then you will be of no use to yourself (much less bhw)

I'm no expert in this whole internet marketing thing yet; I have a few sites that make a small trickle of income, but I'm still learning. So I don't have the time or expertise to be a "mentor" but I can offer you a few tips that would have helped me out a lot when I was just getting started: - You have to treat it like a real job. Being your own boss is not all about taking breaks whenever you want; it means you have to keep yourself on a schedule and make sure you're getting done what needs to get done. When you're doing your work on your home computer, it's easy to find yourself playing around on the internet every five minutes. A boss at a regular job wouldn't put up with that for long, and you shouldn't either. - I'm not sure what you mean by programs and not being able to afford them... Sounds like you might be talking about e-books written by some "guru" promising a method that will make you $10,000 per day. I think it's pretty obvious that this is not possible without first having a very smart and original idea, working harder than you've ever worked at implementing it, and just a little bit of luck. There really is no secret to SEO: you just make a site with some real value that people would actually want to visit, and the rest is just technical technical stuff (which looks complicated, but it's not hard at all once you see what it's all about) Think about your interests: is there some subject that you would blog about for free, just because you enjoy it so much? Make a site about that, and provide information that is genuinely helpful to people. - If you need startup funds, consider selling articles on Constant Content, iWriter, London Brokers, or any of the various "sell your article" sites.

well so far the so called mentors posting are not giving me guidance on where to start looking, yea, thousands of post here about all sorts of questions about SEO programs and all but no straight answer to look here at these or try reading these.

I am spending my time looking through the threads but some guidance on where to start is mainly all i'm asking for.. simple as that..

Read SEO for dummies, no pun intended, well maybe a little.

But still, I have most of my SEO clients read it before working with them because it teaches the sheer basics. It's a great starting place. Be sure to read the latest edition though.

Well guess the community here is rather...limited in their mindset of helping others. thanks to the 2 people that offered a little help to me, even if the second person is slightly insult my intelligence.. but what ever..

I try to ask for help in where to start and all your guy did was say was open your eyes there are thousands of threads.. well that doesn't give me the most remote ideal of where to even start with learning this stuff and putting it to use.

And to the childish abhi007 for being a childish troll and i'm going to assume your the one that gave me Neg. rep for asking for help.. because you commented being spoonfed.. but what ever troll. Why you think i'm being spoonfed is just stupid. I'm not asking for anyone to do all my work while I be a lazy person. I am instead asking for assistance in where I can look to start learning. Where I can get proper information, or tutorials to watch to make sure I'm using things to the best of their abilities. nothing more.

Dude, no one is going to help you for nothing. maybe you should post, "hey, I'll work as an intern to learn from top SEO guys." That would work better.

I would love to have millionaire mentors but why would they waste time (time is money) on a guy who doesn't make millions and cannot help them in any way.

And your responses aren't going to get you in anywhere either. You should have learned from what people have told you and start where everyone else has. That is with wasting money, wasting time & failing! Why should I fail and waste 3 years of my life in order to give you a head start?

Start on your own first. Fail some. Then come back and ask. Right now your asking for a free lunch and steal our lunch money too.

People who want something for nothing. Just get in line like everyone else!

And your last post is pathetic. Your new here and people are giving you honest advice. Maybe it isn't the advice you want but it is the truth. Bashing people that have been here a long time is just going to isolate yourself. And for a person like you who needs someone to hold his hand, your not looking so good....

YOU PRICK you accuse me of being childish go whine somewhere else, arent you the noob who started this thread and were begging for someone to help you and NO it wasnt me who Neg Rep you it was surely someone else and you know what the guy who gave you the negative rep did it because he knew you are basically a NOOB who is begging for help, there are so many people who launch threads like these we usually tend to discard but you are so LUCKY that many of the members gave you good pointers and you still come complaining and accuse me.

This guy is basically asking someone to take by his hand and teach him everything, go get a real time JOB.
