Hey! I'm 20 years old and work in a grocery store. I'm not after making amazing amounts of money online. I just want to be able to make a little bit of money on the side (and maybe advance on, if things work out). I have about 3000$ I could invest. Where do I begin?

Start slow. Get yourself a domain, a blog system like Wordpress, start posting content and publishing it on Facebook and/or Twitter. Soon you'll start getting traffic. Put ads on your site, expand your social media and keep going at it, slowly. As you feel more secure, go for the more Black Hat methods and expand. Just my 2 cents.

If you have $3,000 to invest, I suggest the following:

    1) Read. Read a lot of the methods offered here. Search and see what can still work and what is dead. See if any of the dead methods can be spun to create workable income sources.

    2) Don't spend it all. You don't need $3,000 to make money. Myself and many other successful internet entrepreneurs here started with $10 or less. You just have a head start.

    3) Put $2,000 of it into a start for an emergency fund if you don't have one already. If you work in a grocery store, your income likely isn't very high. Having an emergency fund is essential for financial independence.

    4) This may go against the grain, but if people suggest specific things to you, those are the things you should stay away from.

    Good luck.

Word of caution: Make sure you know who you are working with. There are lots of reputable members here
who have a good track record of satisfactory dealings with other members. On the other hand, with a forum
this large, you can bet that there are also individuals who would gladly take your money and run.

    Do your due diligence . . .

No matter what you do, under no circumstances should you spend that money in exchange for knowledge. This includes eBooks, lectures, or even people contacting you who say they've this great idea. No matter how tempting or easy it may seem, don't invest it yet.

There is a lot valuable information here on BlackHatWorld that can help you build your own business, and it's free.

I just noticed that you're registered from June 2014, so you must've at least read the basics. In that case, I'd go with what Barsimpsonio said. Taking action is more valuable in returns than money at this point.

JK.... invest time in learning first. Start reading and reading... then test something you like.... or better yet.... find a niche (i.e do market research) and create a product/service that solves a real problem or need.

If you want to make money online, you need an honest answer. It will be extremely hard to generate passive income via blogging and social networks. Also, do not spend even 1$ before to be sure what you are doing. You'll make some mistakes at beginning like all of us.

The best way to make money online is to offer something new, unique, or very interesting financially. Blogging and social networks are just a small part of the multiple ways to make money.

    What are you skills ?
Good in music, photography, graphic design, video editing, mobile development ?
Or just a lot of knowledges in a specific domain ?
Or maybe you live a an interesting place ?

Why not starting with Fiverr.com ?
Why not selling graphic design items on GraphicRiver.net or CreativeMarket.com ?
Why not selling photos on PhotoDune.net or Fotolia.com ?

You can mix methods, for example you buy a HTML newsletter on CodeCanyon.net and selling a customization on Fiverr.com ?
You can create a unique item and selling it via Sellfy.com or GumRoad.com. It can be everything digital.

Keep in mind few things :
    1. Behind your screen, do not trust anyone.
    2. Think like a customer.
    2. Your brain is an ATM.

    Good luck !

PS : Do not spend one cent in stock market
PPS : You can start with $0 and just time investment.

    Hey,

As others have already said, don't just spend it. $3000 can become your ticket for a great business venture, or it can be literally the same as flushing them down the toilet.

It's important that you remain patient and don't fall for empty promises. You're in the marketing world, and 95% of claims are complete nonsense, so go with that expectation into it.

If you want, you can add me via skype and we can chat for that. No worries, I'll never ask for a cent... I like to talk about business, and I can at least show you the things that I'm doing etc. to give you ideas, or to answer certain questions before you throw the money out.

Either way, I wish you luck and the ability to work hard and make smart decisions.

    warm regards,
    neocortx

The great thing about IM at least in the beginning is the very low start up cost ($10 domain, $5 hosting). There are a lot of crap SEO services / tools you don't need. Just try to immerse yourself with good information and learn by doing.

Only problem with this is that I'm no good at writing, and can't think of any good niches.

Find a niche that has not been squeezed and squeezed is more difficult with each passing day.
If I were in your place I would not get in there because it will take you several months before to understand that your choice may not be the right one.
From my experience, selling a digital product can be extremely lucrative compared to website and nicro-niche.

I'm grateful for you sharing your opinion on the matter. I have always wanted to do something like that, but I always end up haltering, because I have a feeling the competition is going to be too big, for a new player like me.

As I said in my previous post, there are a lot of platforms where you can sell a digital product.

It can be a graphic design item on GraphicRiver.net.
It can be a audio sound on AudioJungle.net.
It can be a photo on Fotolia.com.
It can be an original typography on CreativeMarket.com.
It can be an iPhone app on App Store or an Android app on Play Store.
It can be a service of Fiverr.com.
It can be a music album on Bandcamp.com.

There are thousands of ways, you have just to find the perfect one for you.

In which domains are you good at ? (Even if it's not digital.)

That's another thing. I don't really have any special talents. I play games. I'm good at them. That's it.

Don't head in and invest all 3k in something you don't know anything about. Take it slow, buy a domain or heck even an established website and practice. Let the first thing be a practice project and invest max 250$ in it. After it see what works what doesn't and start a bigger project that will get you profit.

Put that money away. Do not use it. Do not buy anything. Do not trust anyone, even me.

Use your time to register some free blogs and learn SEO by using these blogs.

Once you learn SEO, buy some tools to make the process easier.

Then invest into long term ranking properties. Weather it be PBNs or Expired Web 2.0s.

Then go through the forum for guides on KW research. Find the easier KWs you can find and use your tools and assets to rank those sites.

Then figure out the best way to make money with those sites you build.

None of this will be easy. Learn to do this all yourself and now you have a business.
