I'm pretty new to adwords, done a bit of research, have a plan. My question is about using too many keywords in a campaign, or am i overthinking it. Imagine i have 220 keywords.

This is hypothetical as i havent started the campaign.

I have 20 really good keywords, they get good ctr. About 300 impressions and maybe 60 clicks per day, cost me 420.00 per day, 7 dollars per click.

Say i also have 400 more keywords, they dont hardly get any impressions, lets say 90 impressions, 15 clicks total but the cost is next to nothing, lets call it 15 bucks, 1 dollar per click.

Now, my question is this. Is there a negative impact for using these 400 keywords. Is there a negative impact on a campaign for having a bunch of keywords that don't get too many impressions??

it depends of how targeted your keywords are...
how related the keywords are to your website also...

It's a nationwide, financial niche and i'm targeting a smaller section within that niche. The website is only about that niche and landing page targets the smaller section.

Some keywords are like "keyword in Arkansas" or "keyword in Riverside CA" just as an example. Some of the keywords have the keyword, adding in a location.

You can have as many keywords as you want in a campaign. However you should group similar keywords into different ad groups, with very targeted landing pages as appropriate.

Going super granular is the way to go if you want to have heaps of keywords; if you don't go super targeted, the performance (CTR) of your less relevant keywords, and the low quality score (ie landing page relevance) of your less relevant keywords will drag down the performance of your ad groups and campaign as a whole.

It takes time and effort to set it all up but if pays big dividends in terms of lower click costs and higher ad placements.

Thank you very much autumn. That's exactly what i will do.

Last question, should I use broad and build a huge list of negative keywords, phrase or a huge list of exact matches??? I'm pretty sure i have a good grasp of my keywords but then again, i'm sure with the infinite number of variations out there, i'm missing something. Most of my keywords are in the 12.00 - 25.00 cpc range per google kw tools. Should I just start bidding around 15.00 or 3.00 or what. It's profitable at 100.00 per lead, not sure how many clicks i'll need for a lead.
