I am just starting out with adsense and my account just got approved, i see my first ads there :peace:

i'm banking off something completely different and doing OK, but I thought I'd give adsense a try since i'm posting fresh content to a couple of blogs and getting a bit of traffic, a few more dollars a day can't hurt can they? :)

However i'm a total noob in this field, i've placed a few ads, but i'm looking to gain any insight and suggestions as to how I can optimize this. Any tips will be greatly appreciated (i don't want to do too much hardcore black hat, so google-friendly would be great!).

Just play with the ads until you find a decent and legal (adnsense tos) ctr.
Up and right is where you will most likely get better conversions.
2 ads on home page 3 ads in inner pages (2 if small -600words or less).
Choose the ads to be the same color as your background.

That should give you a 2-5 ctr. Make sure to aim for a 5% and you are set.

Personally, if you know your traffic adsense is a waste of time.
You have your campaign targeted through your site, now segment it and place some cpa offers according to your audience. Youll make way more $.

Why would you give away conversions to an advertiser when you can obtain them yourself? The only reason would be if your traffic is a total mess and you have some topic such as 9gag. Then adsense would work.

You will need to fiddle around with ad placement. Try moving the ads around every couple of weeks to see if it improves performance significantly. Test, test, test and test some more - just a few pixels could mean lots of money depending on how much traffic you're getting.
Keyword research is also really important if you want to make decent money off adsense.

I'm not sure what else you're looking for. If you have any questions then shoot away!

Do not get greedy. When people get greedy with adsense they are banned quickly and nothing is worth losing your adsense account. Legit traffic and clicks only. This is obvious but a lot of people think they can cheat the system.

Thanks for the tips lads, yes this is what I need to know.. interesting about the CPA offers, the traffic is highly targeted, so I'll think about that.. never even crossed my mind.

Reyone, when you say I could send the traffic to my own offers, do you mean sending them to clickbank products, or amazon affiliates or something? Good advice btw.

I'm really not greedy with adsense, its just to test, discover and gain more insight into different areas of IM more than to make big money, but I have a decent and steady income from another venture :)

With ppc... I've found not giving ALL of the answers in an article makes your CTR go through the roof.

Does it matter? Its my company's address in HK, but I live in mainland China

Also yeah, i Have a question. If I Have like 5-6 blog-type sites.. including some Tumblr blogs, can I slap on adsense on all of them? If I do heavy black hat link building (these are all Tier1s of my money sites for which adsense would be totally unsuitable), does my account risk getting banned?

I don't know if it matters or not. But as i figured out is that bing don't let run an account more than 2 or 3 days if you are accessing it from other location.. Most of my accounts got banned... Exactly i don't know the reason behind that. But i'm guessing that it can because of that...

Never click on your ads - or have friends click on them either.
Don't expect Google to give a new site the best priced clicks - your site needs to prove itself
Add original content, it's ok to offer curated content, just be sure to add some original comments or text to the post
Be sure to code your ads properly so you know which ad placements and articles are pulling in the best clicks
Read through and watch the adsense videos that Google offers - I listened and learned what Google wants and that is the key to making adsense work on your site

I have several sites which are doing $200+ a month with adsense, and they all offer decent content.

Set up wordpress MU sites around your main site, create different authors and have them post.
Set up Google+ accounts, and set up your gravitars so that if your articles get ranked a photo will show.

You will not get many clicks unless you have traffic and you need the right content and keywords to attract the right traffic.
Plus you can offer other relevant products as well, but don't place too many ads or affiliate links on your posts

There are several good plugins, one is adsense firestorm which I use on all my sites.
It costs a few bucks but offers training videos and rotates your ads while keeping track of clickthroughs. So check it out and see if it is for you

there are plenty of people making good money with adsense, but don't try and BH with Google adsense unless you are really really good at Blackhatting

    So keep at it
    Good luck

I have been playing around with it a bit, and basically the official heatmap of Google Adsense found here proved to to the trick. http://www.wp-insert.smartlogix.co.in/adsense-heatmap/

I found that having a leaderboard between my categories and the post, one 350 on the left and another leaderboard at the bottom just above the Pages, (Page 1, 2 etc), was easily the best. Jumped from 0.37% to 1-2%.
