this has been discussed like 10 times at least before, use the search button before posting dude :)
and the answer is the same, you can start right away without any problems and whoever states the opposite is just trash-talking with no experience
i know but i wanted more opinions from more people.

There are multiple ways to get traffic like social media, press releases, ads, referrals etc. We should consider backlinks as a reaction to the popularity & demand of a website. For example, if a company like Tesla ventures into OTT media industry, then there will be a flood of backlinks from the very first day. Google won't consider them abnormal as there will be a lot of people searching for it and showing interest in the site.
maybe the tesla site wont get slapped but perhaps these spiky growths from the very start wont be counted either and not really have the profound effect if they were built slowly over next few months?

just an idea.

because i built even 5 links from the same sources in first week to sites that got nothing out of it after 6 months whereas a duplicate site i built just 1 from same sources but this site was done at 6 month mark with no previous backlinks and it started getting 600-700 organic clicks consistantly shortly after that.

Do people wait?

It absolutely makes no sense waiting, start building links as soon as possible, of course don't rush it.

If it matters at all, then expired domains won't work or would be instantly marked for spam and deindexed since they start with backlinks right from the get go.

Start building backlinks immediately you have content and pages to link to. One thing you should know not to do is to spam your website with too many links immediately your site goes live with content.

Start with a few links then over time increase the number of links.
the expired domains historical data on backlinks doesnt change though, you're leveraging whatever backlinks were built in whatever period of time still.

Yandex shows when a link is created, so Google definitely knows in what span historically the expired domain if its good got its links relative to when it first discovered its content.

the G patent describes the historical creation date of the backlinks relative to when the content was first found. It considers creation dates of both and if "spiky growth" is bad i would imagine even 1 link in your first week is too much as this is a 100% growth in a site that just popped online.

If you were to get this 1 link in 3rd month after launch it would drop to a natural 33%

As long as it's profile links, social shares and stuff like that, I personally start right away and never had problems.

If you want to play safe, just think of what someone who doesn't know SEO would do.

Linkbuilding should be organic. You should make them look like natural links as much as possible. So, you should have higher visibility for your site so that others can see it. This visibility can be achieved through either social media or ads. But you should keep in mind that having a Facebook page with only 10 followers can't help much. So, you need a balance between your backlinks, traffic, and social media pages. Some people achieve it in the very first month, and some others take years to get this balance.

So, I suggest you to not bother about a specific timeline to build links. You can start building backlinks after 1 month of indexing your site or wait for 6 months or longer. But it's important that you create exposure to your site through other means like social media platforms, ads etc.

You can i wait 1 month. see your page progress. publish content continously and slowly start to build small links and increase the links count.

ok thanks, i will wait 3 months to be extra careful.

Basically you dont build backlinks in the first day or week of going live though correct? this is very unnatural?

So as to not arouse suspicion, should we age the site before building backlinks?

Whats a good timeframe to safely begin?

1 month?
3 months?
6 months?

thanks!
I would say that you wait around 2 months maybe, as that would be a decent time for you to start receiving some traffic to your site which will be some kind of requirement if you want to get quality backlinks. Once you have the valuable content on your site, and it has been indexed completely, you can move on with adding backlinks but don't add a lot of them at once, as it will look spammy, go slowly, check results, see if they are improving your traffic, and repeat this action every month.

I would start after a month but very slowly. Consistency is key. Do not build many backlinks at once. Keep adding a few backlinks every month ongoing.

yes i agree with this. so 2 months should be enough i dont have to wait 3+? have u tried the 2 month approach followed by slow monthly drip feed and seen significant traction?

I just responded to a CrowdLinks post which delivers 500 links over 40 days which i think looks completely spammy yet he shows these sites picking up, the links are added about 2 months later but isnt 500 links over the next 40 days insane to do?

In my opinion, it takes about three months for the influence of a link to become noticeable in the search engine results pages (SERPs).

I think 2 months would be enough so that you collect some traffic on the site and start working on your backlinks slowly. Right because of it, I wouldn't say getting 500 links over the next 40 days would be a great idea, no matter how much proof they are giving you, it will definitely look spammy in the eyes of algorithms, so if I were you, I would go for another strategy.

Im going for what you're saying pretty much. Wait 2-3 months then begin building slow and steady.

I normally wait for a month before starting to build my links. However I noticed that you can even start building the links right away after the site is constructed. May be start with a few links and build it up from there.

Although it varies, it seems to take as little as 4 days and up to 6 months for a site to be crawled by Google and attribute authority to the domain. When you publish a new blog post, site page, or website in general, there are many factors that determine how quickly it will be indexed by Google.
