Got a new site to rank for some low competition keywords, was on first page for a while and then started dropping to almost last results, noticed this with other new sites too. Anything can be done other than waiting or would that be counterproductive?

I'm a newbie (first post) but I would venture to guess that competition is pushing forward and that the first thing you need to do is see what they're doing then revisit SEO and perhaps add some backlinks.

Nah you get a newbie bonus which expires.. It will come bank with links..

give it time and more backlinks, also vary your anchor texts, sometimes same anchor texts will cause you to loose ranking, but in this case its normal dancing i believe, nothing strange. Just build build build and in some time you will be there to stay...

Backlinks and time

It's more than likely temporary, as mentioned. I have a new site as well, about a week and a half old, and one day it appeared to be de-indexed altogether! It's since come back to life and is ripping. Keep us updated, though!

Edit: Apologizes for the double post, forum issues.

You need to work at backlinks. Directory and articles upto 10 a day for a couple of weeks then up the rate. For a quicker hit try a bit of social bookmarking. You can read up and do them yourself or outsource if time is an issue.:)

Known as the "Google dance". It happens and you will notice that whenever you launch a new site it will nearly always follow this formula of indexed, shoot up Google search results, drop down or drop right out and then finally it will find it's natural position in the SERPS based on your keywords, backlinks and SEO efforts.

Don't sweat it.

So every new website will have the new site bonus to rank high for a while then drop? No exception??

What kind of links are you adding to the site? They may be falling off if they are forum links.

I'm not 100% but I now have 19 sites and it has happened on every one of them...

it happens to all new sites. You just got "sandboxed" for a while.
It will come back depdning onyour backlinks and other things.

There are actually ways around this but it costs some serious money and activity that Google likes.

Since SEO is important you would probably want to start with higher ranking words on your site relevant to that in which you are trying to get attention for. So if you are trying to sell health supplements then you might want to include words like health and supplements as well as words highly relevent to your site to increase traffic to it.

good tips there, on a related note, had a new site with a few paragraphs that got some traffic, then I added a LOT of new content and the site google traffic went down to just a few click a day, is there a limit to how much content a new site can have?
