So I have an online store going live pretty soon and its a legit one. The site is up already, just needed to get my inventory sorted out and stuff. I was wondering if I should start promoting through facebook/articles and some other SEO now or not to get a head start on backlinks. Or should I wait until my site is fully live ?

    Thanks guys
    Mobius

I start working on sites 6-8 months before I actually get to work on them.. so get a few pages up and let it sit.... then develop the site to how I want it

i have done many online stores and the trick is not to over think it. :D

If you know how to seo then while you get your products in order also do on-site seo (big factor in ranking(. Concentrate on these 2 before moving onto a BL campaign. Just for the simple fact so you dont get overwhelmed.

If you dont know how to seo. Learn all you can and prepare so when your site does go "Fully live" you can start seoing right away.

    Heya...
Well from my point of view, you should start doing bookmarking on various sites like digg, delicious,stumbleupon..so that few of your pages will get indexed.
Then go for articles submission. and start building good dofolllow links but not much..
don't overdo few good links for some time. Do not push your website for very competitive keyword as it will pull down your new site. Go for easy keywords...
    hop this helps
    thanks

Yes, building up some ranking prior to launch can never hurt.

Especially if you put a squeeze page on there and say "get informed when we launch" which helps you build up a nice email list as well ;)

I get a few pages up and throw so backlinks to it and let it age some. Then after a while I finish it up and get serious about backlinking.

When it comes to large White Hat projects, generally I'd start and SEO campaign with an eye towards seeing some revenue in 6-8 months.

Most large campaigns that we run require considerable traffic before pitching to targeted PPV & monthly subscription advertisers. If you expect to flick the switch two weeks from now and start seeing the $$$ roll in your dreaming.

Hmm I wonder how having thousands of backlinks beforehand to a site not even up yet would effect its seo once its actually live?

You can start your SEO promotion before site will be ready. Try to get some strong backlinks :) and work on site content.

Facebook and articles arent seo :greddy2:

If your site is dead then you will struggle to get people to add your link to their site as it is a broken link. You should wait till your site is live.

You can acheive a hell of a lot with good onsite seo it's not always a necesity to have lots of backlinks. Content still matters for a lot.

by getting lsi for the keyword you are ranking for..

Having articles then wrote for those lsi...

Upload each article as its own page....

    Then hide that page...

You will still get scanned,,just customers cant view them.

so articles with keywords linking back to my site and upload them to my site just make them unviewable?
