We have general business discussions here on a semi regular basis but there is no focus on the business of internet marketing, business management, marketing and how to build a sustainable business.

We get smatterings of that in different areas but I think it would be good to have a section like that so that people could focus on the business of the IM industry as opposed to some of the hit and run business ideas that float around as that keeps people from .

In that IM is actually a business and not some kind of hobby whereby we (most of us) are making a few dollars here and there so we can swing by Starbucks and grab our favorite latte, I think it would cause some legitimate growth in the community as business people and give them something that they can use in other business ventures as well as in life.

Business concepts, ethics and principles, sales and marketing ideas, promotional ideas and branding are just some of the areas that could develop in this section and give people more of a long term vision for their IM business and be a benefit to the industry as a whole.

It would be very good if BHW add new section as BTB said, It will help internet marketer to make brand name, Learning new marketing techniques, Sharing new stuff, New business concepts, Perceptions of Online buyers and Sellers, The section will help a lot gaining much for those doing IM as part time or haven't got into it properly.

This is an awesome idea that BHW should consider taking up.

As of now I think it should be kept for Jr.VIP and above.. as the forum is filled majorly with "hobbyists" and "trying out" people! Very few legitimate guys out there who consider building business instead just quick money!

Which is EXACTLY why I think this would be a good section... take the hobbyist that wants to go to the next level and give him ideas, tools and concepts that could help him get there.

I think it's a great idea for a new section.

There are a good few people here who have solid, real world, offline business/sales/marketing experience - and the principles are just as important everywhere else.

Some of the advice I see being given about business and sales makes me cringe - and I hate to think some the worst examples actually get acted upon by eager, yet naive newcomers.

Personally, I'd like a section like that to be in Jr VIP, but only because I'd like to see more sections in there anyway.

Wherever it was though, it would be useful.

Why you say this? Business planning, marketing, building sustainable business has nothing to do with Jr.VIP section. I had membership and I can tell you that Jr.VIP is mostly about making quick cash (with methods that are posted only there to not get saturated).
I vouch for this section too! Hopefully Adsense forum will be reopened soon enough too, I can't see how it takes more than two months just to review it...

+1 for this idea! I posted a business guide on here and it was well received about building
a business model and how to handle clients. The business section we have here is just full
of banking, VCC, and PayPal questions.

So I think this would be a great idea.

I second BTB as well, great idea! For example I have recently moved further into the actual business side of internet marketing, and as RK here said, too much VCC and Paypal in the business section!

Would love to see a section with actual guides, real life "experts" and business people. Would be great for getting and sharing knowledge in that category.

Fantastic idea. Myself and my brother run separate businesses but joined together on a new online venture and we have produced business plans, cashflow forecasts and executive summaries for the three pitches we have had to make so far as we had to prove that we are a legit biz with a viable idea and not just a 'floaty' internet type thing.
I'm in at whatever level, nice one.

Some of that experience and knowledge would be excellent for this section as it could encompass all kinds of business processes. I was talking to someone the other day about their new venture and asked if put together an executive summary as I was considering investing in them.

They did not know what that was and, of course, no idea how to put one together and how it would apply to their venture.

IM is an industry with sic codes, associations, conventions and we interact with assorted businesses, market on many levels, have real life banking needs, are involved in raising capital and every other aspect of a "regular" business.

A good subsection could be "Bussiness Models", like Churn and Burn type of stuff (not only seo churn and burn), "Authority sites", "niche sites" and perhaps other stuff.

    Just ideas guys ;)

Thank you, Wiz, I see this as a benefit to the community as a whole in terms of business growth as well as good for the IM industry as a whole.

A few thoughts on ideas that I think would benefit in a pointed section such as this:

    Business Trends
    - where are we going as an industry and what have we seen historically that we can learn from.

    Business Models
    - not necessarily income generating ideas as much as structure. and more so than "LLC or S-Corp" but rather employee and VA management, customer care processes, payment processing, pricing models as well as growth projections... that list is almost endless.

    Business Principles
    - why one should experiment (test) different things in their business to be sure to not become stagnant; the benefits of losing a dollar to keep a client happy, principles that are almost timeless and can be used in just about any type of industry, including the Internet Marketing Industry.

    Setting up new businesses
    - business plans, proformas, executive summaries... these are not just used to find a venture capitalist, they are used for deciding if your business idea is viable and are often internal documents.

    Buying a business
    - Internet businesses (websites, services) are bought and sold all the time. What makes sense when buying and some particulars can be addressed by that are looking to buy or sell.

    Business Ethics
    - what is fair to the client as well as won't put you out of business... how to offer this or that in a way that is not "screwing thy neighbor". There could be considerable debate here as we come from such varied cultures and I'm sure that most of us would learn from discussions in this area.

I could literally go on and on about some of the topics that would fit a section such as this, in fact I own a site that is centered around this exact topic/niche, and I'm sure others have input that would make me look like a 4 year old and ideas that are well outside my "in the box thinking" that would fit nicely in a section such as this.

    BTB for Mod? ;)

I think it's a brilliant idea. I've seen so many threads along the lines of "client won't pay, what do I do", I think a couple of stickies in the new section about how to get a deposit from clients, getting them to sign a contract, and general professionalism when dealing with people will do a world of good.

We already have a "Business & Tax Advice" section surely this would fall under it or perhaps maybe a subsection within it if anything at all, I've seen forums I've been a member of in the past create way too many sections only to have to compile them again later on because of lack of content and posting with them being split up so much. I'm all for new ideas and bettering the forum but I think there is other more important matters that could be dealt with first rather than adding more sections.

All these "new section" ideas are great but some of them look like people fishing for mod status, not saying that's what OP is doing but again there's more important problems on the forum I would be dealing with first before creating more sections, just sayin...

*Edit: If anything a section for newbies coming to the forum would be of more benefit imho, lots of how to guides, abc of this & that and reputable long time members acting as "Guides" then volunteering to answer noob questions in the section, each new member has to graduate from said section before being allowed to post else where on the forum, it'd cut a lot of the shit we see around here and get our new members off to a proper start rather than this becoming the new wafo..

I agree that there is a big need for a section like this. I have a list of over 15 threads I've bookmarked that are scattered all over the place that would fit in great, and I am sure that I have missed out on similar ones for the same reason.

As outsourcing is an integral part of almost every internet based business, it is a whole area that is currently not covered.

Many here (including me at times) are just building high paying jobs for themselves instead of creating businesses, and if they need some help restructuring their operation as a proper business they have to search elsewhere.
