I have noticed that several of my competitors have started using old, aged domains on their satellite sites. However, they are not niche specific - some domains are for completely different niches. Like if your niche is loans, the aged domains are something related to like dog food, but with content that is now loan related. But that content obviously haven't been indexed before, and the site is completely new now. Just the domain isn't.

I know it can help if you intend to spam them with xrumer/scrapebox, but is there actual advantage otherwise in using old domain? Does it alone help ranking the money page?

This mostly came to my attention as some newcomer started ranking #7 to a highly competitive keyword, though he haven't been able to really move forward for a month now :D So I'm not sure.
