Setting up a new medical blog. Owner of main (non-blog) site is a M.D. and I expect the main site and the blog will have alot of inbound .edu links in the near future, as his creds are impressive. This site will do well in time. Should I add the blog to the main domain which I am just starting to SEO or put it on Wordpress or Blogspot to take advantage of those domains' high PR? 3 M.D.s will be posting on the blog on a regular basis.

    Thanks

You could do all of the above........

I don't think that it would hurt a bit.

    More links with high PR.

Subdomains do not derive any benefits from the main domain in seo. This means that - from a seo point of view - it will be strictly the same if you created medicalsite.com or medicalsite.blogspot.com or medicalsite.wordpress.com

Obviously creating on your own domain has the most benefits. creating on wordpress.com won't let you monetize the blogs, if you do not know that already. Creating on blogger sucks because of the platform.

Install wordpress and go for your own domain.

I'm thinking the subdomain route with WP blogs or maybe even a social site like Dolphin which has blogging and forums.

The forums could work out really well considering how much content potential there will be.

I would use WPMU or Social Engine. For what you are wxplaining it looks like WPMU will be your best bet.
