Well, what he says is to "lean" away from article marketing.

Basically he has a problem with articl emarketing for 2 reasons:

    1) The same article is being thrown across several low quality sites (so UAW and the like are going to be discredited ...probably already have been from what i'm hearing in forums)
    2) Article marketing is a way to "vote" for yourself ...and backlinks should be really about other people voting for you ...not you voting for yourself. So this would seem to suggest that even good quality article directories (IE ezine articles etc) have fallen out of favour and will continue to go downhill in googles eyes.

So basically he suggests to go down the "social media marketing" route to future proof your websites and their business. I know some of you will say that you always knew this but i think its interesting to finally hear it from the horses mouth.

So what are peoples opinions on the best way to market a website using "social media marketing"? I've already included some facebook plugins on my website. What else do you think i (and everyone) should do to social media market a website and its business.

    Thanks in advance.

The problem is that almost nobody is giving you organic ******** links so you can`t get high in top ranking only with high quality content, if the niche is strong. You need backlinks, and no one gives you for free, just because they like your content. It`s about competition.

    Exactly...

@OP: Ezine, ehow and the Like are Content Farms according to google..

With their new browser (cant remember the name rt now) You can block certain search results from showing up in your search...i.e. in their beta they had people who would block such sites because they didnt like them..

So they made it like this in their browser and in their algo just to make sure to hit everyone the same that does AM..

Is there ways around it? Maybe, but lets see how this plays out..

There might be someone that comes in here and says "Im doing AM right now and making a "KIIIIIIIIIIIILLING"'

All that means is the algo hasnt caught up with your shit yet...

    It still takes TIME.

O and like everyone says, use the search function more..

He says he doesn't like the links but never says Google doesn't count them.

Sometimes you have to realize that this guy puts out videos on what Google prefers that you do and not what they penalize you for.

It's public relations more than reality. If they could discount all these links, they would have already.

Some guys from G must be retards. If G starts giving more value to social media links, webmasters from all over the world will flock to facebook, which is the biggest threat to G monopoly at the moment.

    I don't like this because :
    1) Articles marketing was one of the last "white hat" methods
    2) Less white hat means more spam

Here here. I'm in favour of high quality articles sent once to high quality article directories. I think thats good. I'm not too much in favour of UAW type article marketing becuase that IS spammy no matter what way you look at it.

Not so. Complicated bh strategies mean less successful competitors. AM is too easy to automate which in effect resulted in hundreds ot terabytes of crap. All G's fault for giving it value in the first place.

If you want an advantage, identify some subclass of a blog platform SB can't autopost on, get some freelancer for $50 or less to make you a custom autocommenter and enjoy the thousands of BLs from virgin sites.

Advise...when it comes to link building, follow the exact opposite of what Cutts says. He knows that your role is to game google. The longer he scares you from that, the better his PR and salary increment !!! Think about it!!!

Just continue with article marketing esp those who use AMR!

Article marketing for SEO was never really white hat, not even with the "high quality" article directories. Grey hat at best, black hat at worst.

He's telling people to move away from article marketing and that's probably a good idea for legit webmasters. They cleaned house with article directories, no reason to think those links won't be devalued if they aren't already. For a black hat that just means you're going to need more automated submissions to make the same impact.

Although they don't know it yet, Google, Xrumer and Scrapebox are on the verge of going down the drain.

Yesterday i have visited a start-up that came up with the right idea of ranking content on the web. With $5B already invested, they will change that silly SEO game forever.

I don't know what you're talking about, I use good content to get editorial links and they kick ass. In '99 link popularity wasn't even a factor.

Anything short of human reviewed content can be gamed. Even a hypothetical artificial intelligence as you could simply use another AI against it.

That being said I was too ignorant at the time backlinks were identified as a great idea to judge content by the G's owners but can't wait for some new better method to emerge. This time I'm ready to automate the heck of anything unsaturated.

I really hope you are correct :D

Social media marketing? how is that suppose to increase your backlinks? The only way that works is if other people link to it/share it.

Heres the bottom line: article marketing is dead simply because google knows who the article directories are (as a result, articles on those sites are penalized). Second, google will penalize any domains they think are spam/low quality. As a result you need to do two things:

    1. get backlinks from, "high quailty" sites
    2. get backlinks from, "non-spam quality" articles

How do you achieve this goal? Simple, you have to use micro niche sites like blogs or other smaller, "niche" websites or authority websites.
