New gTLDs such as .lol .restaurant .home etc. are coming soon..

It will not be confusing because they are "strings" company's are buy new gTLD like .google, .youtube, .canon, .docs,
They are shit but apparently the .com's space is ending

I disagree heavily.. I think that .com's will become more valuable then ever in the flood of shitty extensions that will be coming out. The branding factor especially for .com (and also a few others like .net and .org) is light years ahead of all the extensions that are out now already, not to mention completely new extensions..

Look at .co. It is defined as nothing more as a misspelling of the .com by anyone who looks at it. Do you think that because there will be a .cooking, someone will go there rather to lets say cooking.com? I highly doubt it, but only time will tell.

.COMs are heavily imprinted in people minds. They will still be the best option for a long time. Another thing is that those new domains cost really serious $$$$.

D

there are already vanity extensions such as .tv, .museum, .jobs, .travel, .mobi, but those have not hurt the values of .com so i dont think adding more similar extensions will either.

I do not think the new extensions will really go anywhere. You cannot beat the .com-.net-.org
extensions.

Nice analogy zenoGlitch! Yeah .com's are like where the ultra wealthy live, newer ones are like the sticks. I haven't heard much about .xxx being popular.

Apparently Google wants to buy the .search domain... it'll be interesting to see how Bing, Yahoo, etc battle for that one since it's really monopolistic.

The thing that i had considered, is that the new generation, havn't really grown up like us, and to them the internet will look better as :

order.pizza

instead of orderpizza.com

It seems a natural progression, and this wouldn't be the first time people have said "this will never change the industry" and then been left out in the wind.
Everyone who didn't have a computer 10 years ago said that about the internet.

Early pioneers always take a risk, so for me that's the answer, and if google see the value, then it shouldn't be dismissed.
