I think there will be a huge backlash from this from all webmasters... black/white hat alike.

Part of the allure of starting any website is anonymity.

I think it will give a little boost to authority sites, but that's it. If they would do that there would still be a method to make authority sites. Just a cat and mouse game. The thing is how much momentum and money would it set google back.

i think the new update will be called Eskimos !!! see panda bears and penguins all live on that side of the planet :p

exactly if they have decided it then they are going to do it. the only thing we can do is adapt and change our strategies in time. its getting tougher and tougher it seems but the challenge is well a challenge..

The interwebs the best place to have fun. Why all this writers don't really write about the real issue here, and what Google actually aiming to. This is a good example of the garbage that is been polluting the net in the last few years. From the digital age we are moving to the age of experts of nothing.

Every so called Internet marketer aims either at content, link building, and tags everything with the 3 magical letters SEO to make it stand out. This zoo of updates are nothing more than to remove garbage like the post from the "Lady Content".

Grab a cup of coffee or a bag of pop corn and read what all IM'ers are doing now days. They install WP, puts hundreds of content and push for some cheap ass keywords and call them self's SEO Gurus. Many like "Lady Content" saturated the net with garbage. Yes, it's garbage.

Do a search for a service that you really need, what you can see? Yelp, WikiPedia and some others, then after that all you see is WP blogs with trash content. People want to read information, but people are tired also of the so called gurus of the markets. Someone needs a plumber as in emergency, this person goes to the big G and type local plumber what it gets? Roto Rooters witch will cost you an arm and a leg, and 9 other non local Guru plumbers that have 100 articles written by "Lady Content" witch as far I can tell she is not a plumber. This person will end up calling Roto Rooters because was the actual only plumber to call, the rest was just garbage on the net.

Real IM'ers build quality, that's why none of this zoo updates matter. Oh a new Google update, cool let me see how many where hit. let me see how many are gonna QQ oh my site! Your site? R.I.P.

Google can implement this authorship program as control mechanism for this "content kings", they are going to cry in the update and on the next one, and the next one, and so on. Build a real site, do you understand what is the difference between a blog post, an article, and a news post? Does a blog post can be consider a Press Release? I bet you if many of this kids that want to use a get rich quick, build site without WP and with a more suitable format for marketing those amazon links they will be making money and not coins. They will see how you can really make money online.

I'm a believer in good content.

I also believe the internet is what it is, powerful, because of anonymity.

So what happens to whistleblowers who save the whale? Will they rank lower than the whale killer?

This is a misguided update, if it is true. The best scammers have multiple verifiable identities. Just go to the shitlist on this forum. Good content is not equal to a real person. In fact, some of the worst content comes from people who are listed with their pictures on the searches.

So unless Google wants to control all our identities in the world, this is one bad update. Oooops maybe that's exactly the point. Imagine having the real identities of everyone who uses the internet in your database?

Google would not make it require a google profile author or any of that, they already rank some high quality but old sites way better than some of the spam that gets seo'd good. i could not imagine a verifiable identity required in order to rank or rank higher, it would just kill their search engine.

Eric Schmidt has been talking non sense may be thats why he lost his job to page.
In some of his interviews, his behaviour seems similar to Hitler ( watch some of the videos of hitler on youtube )

Authorship is a rubbish idea - Technically, it also means that whatever you read on the internet is true.
So whatever wikipedia says is true though it can be edited by anybody!

Problem is that web has grown too big and google has played its part in that by ranking garbage content production sites like ehow, ezinearticles and others.
Since web had grown bigger, spam content has also grown bigger.
Instead of doing something innovative to get rid of the spam, google is using these tactics which are cost effective for google.

Sometimes, i feel that google has resigned to the fact that it can not tackle spam, which it has helped created.

So, it has now taken a different approach of giving just good enough results to people
If its an info article - give wikipedia and other such so called authority sites ( e.g. its own youtube ) a result on the front page
and if the query has even a sliver of a shopping intent, show amazon, walmart, target etc along with the sponsored ads.

Good thing is that everything can be faked and if this idea does catch up,
expect the price of google PVAs to go down as more and more suppliers come to the market.

You could always not use the Internet and this would be irrelevant now, wouldn't it? Whatever makes you happy, right? I mean, most people are better off just staying off this thing and enjoying life instead of trying to enforce rules on it's use. When you get to that point, you've lost sight of life anyway and need to get some fresh air and see things differently.
