I'm surpised it took so many years for a new tv show to appear, DBZ was freaking huge back in the early 2000's outside of Japan yet there was just video games coming out, it wasn't until last year they started to revive the anime with actual canon DBZ movies.

Dragon Ball Super, a brand new television anime inspired by Akira Toriyama's Dragon Ball manga, will premiere on Fuji TV and other channels in July on Sundays at 9:00 a.m. This will be the first new Dragon Ball television series since Dragon Ball GT, which aired from 1996 to 1997.

The story of the anime is set a few years after the defeat of Majin Buu, when the Earth has become peaceful once again. The voice of Goku, Gohan, and Goten, Masako Nozawa commented on the new anime, saying, "We've always used the word 'chō' (Super) with Dragon Ball in commercials, games and the like, but the fact that the series titled Dragon Ball Super is beginning is the best thing ever."

It's unfortunate it's not canon though. I'd love to see another Dragonball series from Toriyama himself.

I guess it's good news, and I hope it will be as awesome as the earlier series were. I am a die hard fan of DBZ :)

Its really not canon? I haven't been able to find anything if its canon or not? I know that GT and all the movies except the latest 2 are not canon.

I think it's safe to assume everything is not canon unless Toriyama says otherwise. We do have this to look forward to though, which is canon: http://dragonball.wikia.com/wiki/Dragon_Ball_Z:_Resurrection_%E2%80%98F%E2%80%99

Akira is going to be involved in DB Super, but he wasn't involved in DB GT

There are rumors it will last at least 100 episodes.

The new Dragon Ball Z TV series, Dragon Ball Super, could be up to 100 episodes if Toei Animation gets its way.Spanish website, Mision Tokyo, posted some interesting new information they managed to gather about Dragon Ball Super.
They say Toei Animation has planned to make a minimum of 100 episodes for Dragon Ball Super. If things go well and the new Dragon Ball Z TV show is a success, they can increase this number.

The whole DBGT thing was a mistake in my opinion. You know, like some of the movies. The child side of me was excited about the new DBZ series. I hope Goku is not a kid, that was the dumbest shit anime has ever done. (Yeah, I stand by that one, haha).

He wasn't a kid in the last two movies which are canon(rest aren't). So I doubt they will make the same mistake like they did with GT which didn't have the support of Akira.I wouldn't be surprised if Netflix shells out $150,000 to $250,000 per episode to get US streaming rights to Dragon Ball Super.

On a unrelated note, its amazing how it seems like this thread was made such a long time ago by me, but in reality its less than a month old.

Too late, should not have posted that.

No no, I meant the way DBGT started out. I mean, I admired how they had Dragonball characters come back into the story like 20 years later, but it was stupid of the writers to make him a child. According to the storyline/Vegeta, saiyans do not age.

I anticipated that as well, but it seems more like a Hulu thing. Netflix likes to shell out for things that have finished or were already Netflix originals. But, I would not be opposed to either one.

Saiyans do age but they do at a very slow rate until they are in their 60's/70's and then they decline.

Vegeta explains in episode 274/289 "Granddaughter Pan" that Saiyans evolved as a warrior race, so they retain their youth longer so that they can fight longer.

They essentially grow until they reach their prime, and then they physically age much slower than that so they can live in their prime longer.

Exactly what I was referring to. I vote for Toonami coming back for it. I remember as a kid watching that and waiting for new episodes, then buying the video tapes (yes, video tapes) when they came out week by week.

Sorry, but I thought of the idea before I scrolled down to see this. Get ready for some competition!
It's not about who does it first, it's about who does it right first.
