I'm sure that everyone here even the veteran at one point or another have to get a brand new domain with no previous owner, what I'm asking is how do you tackle them in terms of SEO?

Let them rest first month with 0 backlinks?

    1 Backlink a day?

Only do brand backlinks towards homepage?

    etc

Why not do it in a natural fashion.

Get some content indexed by google.

Use social media to promote your content for a bit(just to get some sort of traffic).

    Then start creating some backlinks.

Then go for full blown link building. If you want to do that.

Get some natural content and slowly backlink it. After a few weeks or something, add more. Then add more and more as time goes on, getting faster over time, etc.

Well I sent it a sitewide link from ym first domain towards it right on the first day. I doubt there will be a problem it's only 30 links and I sent with branded keyword. I'll be adding content daily and let it rest for 2 weeks in terms of backlinks then I'll start pumping again

I have a starter news site, I gave it a backlink from Lifehack, my gawd. I HAVE ROBOTS.TXT BLOCKED but from that one lifehack link, it gets 5 views a day :D.

I know it's not much, but I was impressed imho. cuz without robots.txt my site is pretty much... dead right?

so my advice is if you're going to buy a link, buy one from a site with lots of traffic.

You can start to build your backlinks at any time but you must focus on the regular update of your website is the first and best way. Posting the quality contents on your niche regularly and set your on Page SEO properly then you can start to build the backlinks and make sure your backlinks are from the good and real authority sites that are related to your site niche.

I don't know, all this seems a little overly cautious. I mean, when a person or business starts a *real* site, they usually do everything they can think of to promote the site. Social media, press release (which can result in dozens or hundreds of backlinks), etc. For new sites I start link building right away.

Good quality content, at least 10-20 pages of it.
    Good internal linking between articles.
Sitemap and submission to Google search console.
Social sharing, creation of FB page, twitter handle, Pinterest, instagram depending upon niche
Web 2.0 backlinks on major platforms
Blog comments on high quality niche relevant posts (not bot stuff)
Edu & Gov backlinks if possible, again not the usual run of the mill stuff
All the above links to brand and URL

    Then blogpost outreach
    Citations
    PBNs to your direct anchors

This should rank anything, if it doesn't then you are in the wrong niche with big boys :D

Bro my biggest competitor is a site with 19 DA.

The thing is that I don't need to rank my homepage.

Homepage is just there for brand, easy to memorize domain, the content that I need to rank are the posts itself, that's why I'm never sure if I should link to homepage at first or just go straight to the posts

I usually concentrate on building up the site and content first.
Am very slow, so it takes me a month or two easily to get the content right + start with the social media games.

If you are ignoring social media you are leaving money on the table.

By the time I finally am done, the domain already has a few months under it's name and I start off really slow when building back links.

I never slow down link building speed until I rank. I can go over it, but never under it. So I start with something easy, like 2-5 HQ links a day. And only kick it up a notch when I have atleast the next two weeks of link building planned out.

I may be biased, but I think link velocity is a huge factor and not often talked about.

    STEPS

    post very high quality content
search for keywords relevant to you
use the keyword in the post
use web2.0 for marketing (social sites)
    try to do quality backlinks
    take risks

many high revenue sites do anything to get more traffic even it costs thousands of dollars. because they know the money they spend is investment.

If going for the long run, then first thing is to add this site to google webmaster stools and start producing AWESOME content. Long posts with high quality.

For each post, request GWT to crawl it and index it. If you keep addding content, and you did your onpage SEO correctly, you'll start getting traffic automatically.

You only build links or start doing off-site SEO when your is stable ranking for a handful of kw's constantly and not jumping all over the SERPs. That means you've escaped the sandbox and are a fully active site.

Well it will be hard to rank for keywords with onsite only since it is a new site with no content but I see where you're getting at, will add more content and once they stop jumping around that is when the link building will start

Never go by the metrics of your competitor. If he has done well to hide his backlinks from the bots then all the DA PA TF CF can be skewed.

On a side note do build links to your homepage as well when you build links to your pages. Domain power do help the pages to rank faster.

    Hi!

You should start by being active on social media, therefore sending social signals to search engines.

Write great pieces of content and try to earn some valuable links. Remember: quality is more important than quantity!

Links with low authority: I suggest you go for branded anchor text links.
