    Hi guys

I've noticed a new competitor enter page 1 of the serps. A quick look at their backlink profile and its almost all footer links, some related niche sites, others non related at all.

Im not sure if these will be part of his site network (as the sites look quite legit and established), but its clearly suspicious that these links are in the footer (only viewable if you ctrl+f the word as the font is so small / blends into background)

    What do i do?

At this rate, it seems like only a matter of time (based on how quickly they've hit page 1) before they over take me, with these poor links. I can't tell if they're bought links, hacked, or part of his own site network.

My backlinks are primarily from manual tiered link building & guest blogging.

The competitor domain is an aged domain, but was re-bought in November 2014. So its only been live for little over a month.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

It could be hacked links, more likely sape links especially if these are not sitewide links.

It's a sign that you need to up your link building. You can't bring him down, the only way you can outrank him is to get better links. Perhaps you can look into PBNs.

No, advice on what i should do in regards to my link building.

It does look very spammy and suspicious, so im leaning towards this maybe being a "churn & burn" kind of project for him. I honestly can't see it lasting an update because the links & anchor texts seem so obvious, and the site has came into the top 10 from almonst out of no where.

I think the PBN recommendation is probably a good idea.

I've never bought links before, so i may buy links to my tier 1 links, and not my money site direct.

So you are moaning because your competitor is better at SEO than you?

Your competitor is doing a better job than you. Do what they do, only better to beat them.

Lol no, im simply asking for advice on what to do.

Clearly what he is doing is working, so if you want to say he's better than me, then sure i'll accept that. Im not "moaning" though.

From what i've seen/read over the past year, these kind of sites (typically) look like churn & burn. So im just asking for advice as to what i should do.

Im currently higher than this new site in the serps, however i would guess, because of how quick he's hit page 1, he will continue to climb the ranks.

Im not moaning about that, im asking for advice and recommendations what to do, which is surely what this forum is for?

    Not moaning, asking for advice.

This is what im thinking, my only concern is if i was to follow suit, and get these spammy links, if i'd be hit in a future update.

To be honest, i dont have access to adding footer links into domains as powerful as my competitor.

Im not sure if they'd be bought (ive never really looked into SAPE, so not exactly sure what it is other than russians hacking links into sites - I may even be wrong on that) or if they are being placed in as part of his PBN.

The sites look like legit sites, some are e-commerce sites, so id more than likely say hacked links.

Everything ive read seems to suggest to avoid these type of links, as they're either useless and won't work, or if they do work you'll get a penalty.

However Its obviously working for this guy.

    Thanks for the advice.

Like i say my knowledge of SAPE is almost non existant. Any good resources to read up on? I think a PBN is definitely something i need to look into setting up.

    Thanks

There are threads on threads on threads regarding SAPE but I wouldn't get involved with that if you're looking to keep your site long term. A personal PBN would be a better solution.

    Don't be reactive.

This is why I use a variety of sites using a variety of SEO techniques, I am not going to turn a good site into a churn and burn site just to out do someone, I would start a churn and burn to out do them, and once his and your site have burnt, you will still have your good site.

ya basically you wait for about another week at most for the site to get penalized either by algo or someone reporting them. footer links are usually sape. dont be the snitch let them bank a little and quit sweating them. they will be gone soon enough.
