Made some good money. Going to be getting a used car. I like the luxury 4x4 type. Was thinking a Range Rover 2003 or newer or the Infiniti QX56. I'm in LA so I like the luxury look but do also do some light desert offroad stuff in Southern Cali, and Texas. Nothing crazy. I like just driving through the desert. What do you like better?

I don't know about USA but in Europe Range Rover owns Infiniti in terms of popularity and since I'm from a city with 30k people and atleast 100k sellable cars at any given moment in it (our city is popular for that) I can say that automechanics hate Range Rover which is a good thing for a car owner since it means that it's durable :) My recommendation goes for Range Rover, altrough I'm myself saving for Honda Accord - extremely durable car and can't stop staring at it :D

Black range rover. Black rims. Black tinted windows.

But how much money are you looking to spend? What are you looking for in terms of performance or just looks? Are you planning to do a lot of off roading? If you plan on doing a lot off roading I'd recommend the QX56. I've read some good things about it.

True, but new isn't always for everyone. Not everyone has enough money to fork out for a new car... Imo if OP is still young I'd recommend getting something used because sooner or later he'll probably want to try out another car. There are a lot of factors to keep in mind when buying a new vehicle. Unless you have enough money to buy it and don't mind spending additional costs on it.

Range Rover, if you want the luxury look IMO the Infiniti doesn't say "Hey, I make money" like a Range Rover. They simply don't have the brand and personally I think they're ugly.

If someone walks up to you and says "I have an Infiniti QX56" chances are unless you're an Infiniti fan you got no clue what that model number means. You could be talking about the cheapest car they have for anyone knows. However, you say "I have a Range Rover" everyone and their grandma knows what that is, they know you didn't buy the low end model or you'd have said Land Rover.... and the Infiniti doesn't have the air suspension which is absolutely wicked nice. You should really go drive both cars though and then make up your mind.

... buy the Range Rover and you can be a total douche and walk around with your keys from a lanyard around your neck (I do it with my Porsche keys on a lanyard that says "Go Fuck Yourself"), buy the Infiniti and do that **it and you'll just get laughed at.

I'm looking to get used. 10k or under. Maybe slightly higher. I thought about new. I have a 745 credit score and 100% on time payments so I could get low payments but I'm not looking to spend a lot of money, just look like I do. I take it majority vote says women would like the Range Rover better? lol

They are the most popular car in LA, especially since I'm an actor, people take it as a sign of ''making it'' even though I haven't. Figure if I have the nice car and clothes and pretend to it might help with the networking. They are just so popular in LA it's the only car I see lol.

I saw a cool desert offroad pic of the QX56 which is the only reason I considered it.

Don't do that much off roading, used to when I was younger. Just have this ''I want to live in the desert'' phase lol. Love looking at off road safari pics.

But I am in LA so class and the ''I'm better than you'' attitude is most important. lol

Rover is better but not as reliable as Infinity. As you buy 10 years old car with 200-300k miles expect having a lot of expensive repair.

I for one wouldn't buy 10 years old luxury car, but for $10k (lol, cars are so cheap in US) you probably can afford to buy it and throw it away if it starts falling to pieces.

Btw, have you thought about Q7, X5, VW Touareg or Porsche Cayenne? They should be in the same price range with the Rover.

Thanks for the suggestion. I will check out the others.

Checking out CL most Range Rovers 2003-2005 going for 9-14k and have 105k-165k miles usually.

have you ever even owned a car before?
You are thinking about buying 10+ years old Luxuary car and even thinking taking it on credit... That range rover is one of the most Unreliable cars ever, and fixing stuff on it aint cheap, be ready to drop $3k/year just to keep up on road IF you are lucky, same goes for the infiniti but to less extent -also they are both huuuge gas guzzlers!

I've had tons of cars before. Dodge Neon, Chevy Silverado, Chevy Impala, etc the list goes on. I'm almost 24 and in the USA.

Some people say they are super reliable, some people say they are not reliable. Just keep wondering if they we so unreliable why would people take them on deep offroad safari excursions. Gas doesn't bother me. I barely drive anywhere. Especially in Los Angeles, everything is within 5 minutes unless you get on the highway.

Only if you'll sell it after 5 years (especially german ones... (Opel not included since new models are good)) . But if you can afford a new one you will change it easily anyway :D . Old cars are so much better, the electronics ruin the new ones and there are only a couple of exceptions of good new cars. First hand experience here from hundreds of people who live from selling and repairing cars :)
