what is a good alternative to checking your competitions back links since now

If I'm not mistaken, MS was pulling data from YSE. You will have to start tracking your backlinks manually. You may try ahrefs or majesticseo.

I got an email from SEO Spyglass saying their software still pulls all the links from competitors using their massive database.

Only downside with that is you have to buy an expensive software.

OSE is working pretty good, but the $99 monthly fee to access it isn't attractive
