Never ever fall out with your Hosting Company.

I did and that was a big mistake. One thing had slipped my mind, Hosts have total and complete control over every single file on your account.

When Hostwinds downloaded my files onto their servers nothing seemed wrong, it was only when I mentioned that I could not get access to any of my dashboards that Daniel the Support guy went and had a closer look.
After about 20 minutes he came back to me and explained that he had changed permissions on my files, then he said "But you seem to have a heck of a lot of Files" I simply said "really" I did not know any different but he went back to have a closer look.
One of my sites had Six Thousand Files on it. I thought "mmm Seems like a lot" then he said all of my PHP files had Malware on them. Six Thousand Files and all of them infected.
When I looked at them later some of them had lines of code on them that had over One Hundred and Twenty One Thousand Characters in them.
Can you imagine someone going to all that trouble just to spite a disatisfied customer.?
Most of them had a mere Thirty Thousand Characters.
I was determined to hunt them all down and delete them, but to be honest after 3 hours of deleting code I just decided to give up.
I have taken all my sites down and intend to start again from scratch its a bitter blow after 7 years.
But I will succeed and come back stronger because of all the inspiration that this site has given me over a long period of time.
Of Course I would never dare to name the hosting company that did this.
Lets just say steer well clear of Just Host and never forget, keep your hosting company as your friends, they have total power over you wether you realise it or not.

    Well duh.

What you should be doing is making scheduled backups to remote storage servers, even if you have to do it manually. And don't overwrite old backups. You should keep all your monthly backups for the past year at least.

Well Thank you for that advice but dont you think that it is given a bit late in the day.
It is pretty obvious that that is what one should do in a perfect world, but the world is far from perfect is it not.
How many people on here actually do that I wonder?
May be One out of a Hundred.
    But thanks anyway

Ah, another "satisfied" customer of Just Host.

What exactly did you do (allegedly) to make them hate you so much (allegedly)?

I (allegedly) used too many rescourses on an unlimited plan 94% to be precise but that was only one site my other sites were practically sleeping.

...Mother f.... Just Host being typical Just Host. I'm so sorry their interpretation of unlimited = limited.

At least we both know now to not deal with hosts that can't do math.

Very good on Hostwinds to inform you of what was going on instead of just assuming you were trying to bring malware to their servers. That gave them a huge + in my book and I'll be looking in their direction when I need hosting again.

    • Thanks Thanks x 1

Absolutely true about Host Winds, they even went straight to their servers using my log in info and imported all of my sites and files directly onto their servers, so thats how they know where the Malware came from.
I have asked several Gigs on Fiver to redesign them from scratch but no one seems interested in taking my dosh, so may be it is time to just walk away and enjoy my retirement, at 67 I think I have earned it.

I think it's common knowledge that all unlimited plans are subject to fair use policies? If you're using 94% on a shared host you deserve to lose your account.

Are there speaks an advocate of unfair hosting.
There is always one Twit ready to defend the indefensible.
A Just Host plant no doubt.
What does it feel like to be a lone wolf howling in the dark?
    A Power member eh ?
    Hang your head in shame.
In your eyes I no doubt deserved to have Malware infecting and ruining my sites.
Be gone with you to the Devil where you belong

Probably a lot more than you realize. It's not advice given late in the day, it's something you should have known prior to running a website.

Hey, I've made the same mistake before, lost multiple websites from crappy hosting companies screwing up their data. Just sayin' you should take this as a valuable lesson to be learned.

I have my own dedicated servers, thank you for the assumption, and I said you deserve to lose your account not be infected with malware, thank you for the lack of ability to read and a general idiocy. But you have demonstrated your illiteracy before by not reading the Terms of Use to which you agreed. That, and your continuous demonstration of your lack of intelligence, can only be attributed to yourself, so do not attack others to make yourself feel better.

Regardless, if you're going to insult me again, please get an English for Dummies book (if you're capable of reading that, which I doubt). It's embarrassing for you that I have to read your post multiple times to grasp what your poor communication skills are trying to convey and laugh to myself while I do it.

^ Lovely human being you are, arty. Truly a testament to the species.

I'm sure you meant to say Fair Access and not Fair Use Policy, so we'll just let this oversight slide since it would be quite embarrassing for you to have made such an amateurish mistake while criticizing the speaking acumen of someone else.

What nigel wrote is actually rather simple to comprehend and interpret. Each line is its own independent phrase, some of which build off the previous, but all together carry a central theme (yes, I'm walking you through a lesson on stanzas).

"Explain it line by line," you say? Well, alright, let me know if you'd like your very own Dummies guide.

Did you even read the OP? His files got infected, which obviously was the cause for the increased resource usage. He had ~6000 files, Just Host states in their TOS that the limit is 200,000 to be considered "excessive." Their TOS states no limit on the amount of diskspace used. They don't even set an "arbitrary limit" on traffic or bandwidth; if your site exceeds what's acceptable to the point it affects other users, they just throttle you, not take you down.

If you didn't notice from nigel's post, it seems almost as if Just Host sabotaged him or simply allowed the malware to continue piling up. It wouldn't be unheard of for a host to mess with their client. On Just Host's TOS it states, "Just host does place automated safeguards to protect against any one site growing too quickly and adversely impacting the system until Just Host can evaluate said sites resource needs." Where were the safeguards? Just Host dropped the ball on every customer they have by having not addressed the problem sooner and communicating with nigel.

Don't be so sensitive, nigel wasn't insulting you, he was astonished that someone on this planet would actually defend Just Host. I'm pretty amazed at seeing this too, especially on BHW. It's like finding a unicorn.

:\ I guess post count or account level really doesn't prove ability, does it, arty?

Given that "fair access" is generally applied to ISPs and "fair usage/use" is generally applied to web hosts, I have not read the rest of your argument on the grounds that your opening statement itself was inaccurate and therefore the argument probably degraded from there.

Edit: I did catch this bit when scrolling back up the page -
It seems I was correct in assuming the argument degraded. First, his last sentence was "Be gone with you to the Devil where you belong" and anyone can recognize, well anyone but you I guess, that this is meant to be an insult, regardless of your religious standing. Secondly, you will notice (or perhaps not), that I defended the terms of use of "shared hosting" in general, not Just Host.

Oh dear, what a sad young man, trees bend in the wind for a reason.
You have proved your inability to accept that you jumped in with both feet when it would have obviously been better to keep your own council.
As OP I believe I have the right to declare this thread closed.
Just before I do I would like to thank those that have given me support Arsy being the only one not too.
A word on my level of intelligence would I think be in order since Arsy has made so much of it.
Before you were born young man I graduated with Honours from Cambridge University I was then lucky enough to be asked to serve my country in various Government Departments, my point here is that during the course of those years I was lucky enough to work with many citizens of the USA, all of them were well educated and intelligent, and since both my Grandfathers Generation and my Fathers Generation fought side by side with many brave young men from your country I know that you are, thankfully an exception rather than a rule.
Let enough be enough, let silence reign.
