Hey, I know this might not be the best place to be asking this, but I know this board is full of business minded people with experience in marketing.

For a college class I had to do a SWOT analysis on a product I have to make up.

I was thinking about doing a Petabyte Thumb Drive, yeah I know that is highly impossible in this day and age.

So what would be the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats?

I don't need in depth help, just brainstorming on what are possible S/W/O/T for a petabyte thumb drive. If you think a petabyte thumb drive is not good idea, then give me another suggestion.

Also I have to use an existing company through which the product is being made by. I was thinking Sandisk, or maybe Sony, what do you guys think? You think Intel might also be a good choice? In an imaginary world, maybe Intel starts making high capacity storage, who knows.

Thanks guys, and mods if this is the wrong place to be asking this, please delete the thread.

I'd say take a crack at Google providing thumb drives of large, pre-searched chunks of the web for those times when you're hat mounted sat-link just can't transmit through the smog.

    Strengths:
Already have the web indexed and organized in a reasonable fashion.

    Weaknesses:
    How evil is Google really?
What REALLY separates them from the rest of the pack beyond userbase?

    Opportunities:
Could be re-branded and sold as components.
Has the capability of just being a massive storage unit if your internet connection is fine.
    Faster browsing.

    Threats:
How to deal with people unknowingly storing illegal material.
How to deal with content control in general.
Other competitors could easily enter the market.

Just spit-balling. Good luck on the project.

    Yeah... just read bro. LOL

You were thinking he had to surround around house with maybe some hostages maybe in a couple of his best snipers? Anayway ...all kidding aside,

I could easily right a paper on this.... and probably not to far fetched at all.
I'm very into cutting edge technology ant tech developments. Companies have already made significant increases and revolutionary developments in the passed 1-2 years. Look up the latest development's in this area from both IBM and Seagate.

Sony just developed a tv screen as thinner then paper.... and that was now a year ago. http://crave.cnet.com/8301-1_105-9722721-1.html

The point is ... as worldly panther stated... that is only one idea.

I thought of this quite some time ago, because storage is becoming significantly cheaper. Imagine what people use to use only 10-15 years ago? Lucky to get 1mb storage. Now you can carry 4gb-8g flash drives.

I was thinking if it got so cheap - you could revolutionize the movie industry and have vending machines with the movie of your choice on a flash drive. (not just rental, but you could go that route as well). I actually thought of that several years ago. About the same time I was thinking of ways to make a projector inside of a cellphone. (and those are already on the market now). - If you haven't seen them.

I am actually quite shocked that you don't see more interfaces with USB 2.0 interfaces. Such as your car stereo. Should be a standard protocol. No need for ipod or adapters. Just plug in a usb of your choice for any and all of your digital content.

Anyway, take that and roll with it. I have already touch on a few ideas that can make people millions! hehe.

    - Not to slight you at all worldly panther - we are on the same page.

    ;)
