I have access to millions (and soon to be much, much more) of emails. These are segmented by categories and buying history, scrubbed and usually include the first name in the database as well.

I need advice on how to email these people. Since I got these lists from personal contacts no one on these lists technically opted in. Therefore I need a black hat way to send them targeted emails.

I've never done anything black hat before so please let me know if you have any advice. Basically I am thinking I'll have to rent a botnet from somewhere? If you know of a trustworthy one and how to get the process started let me know.

Also I could set up my own server? Or is that too risky and not worth it? I want to be able to send targeted offers but won't get me in trouble. That's a whole other issue that I'd love to hear advice on. Because if I use my affiliate links in the emails or landing pages is there any chance I could get in trouble?

Expert spammers and emailers please let me know your experience so I can end this year big.

I have been emailing and doing campaigns for almost 5 years now.

the list is worthwhile only if it is opt-in and clean and free from spam traps else all effort is down the drain.

If you are looking to out source this work or wish a set up to start your campaigns feel free to pm me.

    cheers!

As techblog said, there's only money to be made if the list is opt-in. It's not like it was pre 2000 where you could make serious cash from affiliate email marketing.

Avoid spam; it's not worth the workload.

Both replies say that the email list is worthless unless it's opt-in. Haha.
It's not as easy as it used to be, but it definitely is still doable, and profitable.

It must be possible. I know there are botnets for rent out of Eastern Europe and if the subject line and sender name are well crafted a well targeted offer must have a chance. It's worth a shot especially for the amount of profit that could be made.

I appreciate the input. DarkPixel: am I on the right track with having emails sent through a botnet? Or are there some other broad strokes I'm missing?

techblog: I can't PM just yet bc I don't have enough posts. How would I get these people to opt in? I'd have to email them just to ask if I can email them.

Has anyone rented a botnet and sent out targeted spam? Or marketed a giant list without the opt in?

What is more important is the legality of your situation. Why risk going to jail for years just because you wanna make a profit when there is just as much profit to make when doing things the legal way?

I just uploaded 2 email programs in the members download section. Maybe you should take a look there.

Thanks aoe316. I downloaded the programs and did a test run. Email Sender Deluxe gets through to my Gmail but with a warning. Outlook flags it and sends it back.

I put in proxy settings but then it either freezes the program or it won't work at all. Will a specific kind of proxy get it through the spam filters?

I really don't see how not being opt-in is going to result in a 0% response? It's just not logical. Sure, if they're opt-in the response will be better, but you can't say there's a zero response because its spam.

What is logical, however, is if you can land an email in someones inbox with an offer that they may be somewhere remotely interested in, and you do that millions of times, you're definitely going to get a response.

If the emails are good, valid etc, do a JV with a professional spammer, you'll be much better off than learning everything yourself.

You are a rookie and have fallen into the same trap most of us fall into.

It's easy to think that just because you have it, you should use it. When I first started email marketing I went after every free list I could. I have billions of email addresses.

Fast forward a few years... If you gave me your list, I wouldn't touch it. I do not know enough about it and the odds of a list that large being "cleaned" and in the hands of someone who does not know what they are doing is slim to none.

Today, I only send to 500k emails that I have personally collected and cleaned over the past few years. And 95% of them are within the segment I promote to. That is how I avoid complaints.

You need to backup and re-evaluate your approach. I think you technically are smart enough to figure out the setup but you will be burning money, time and resources with the list.

You need to understand things like spamtraps, rdns, spf, ip warmups, scrubbing, suppression list, and server configuration before you start.

So, scrape the list you have and first prove to yourself that you can send 10k/day before you attempt anything larger. If you cannot learn how to send 10k/day, you will never reach "millions".

Here is what I would do.

Get a list that is targeted to a group or type of person.
    Understand that group.
Find a product or better yet, identify a need and create a product.
    Market it to the group.
Then continue building your list based around that group.

    Hope that helps.

PS - I've never used bots. They are highly illegal if you are in the US and depending on which Affiliate you are working with, it may be easy to track it back to you. They can be highly successful but they do not work with my products as I need people to know me (as I sell my own products).

OP - Be mindful of advice like this. These people have nothing to lose if you lose.

'thedorf' somehow read my post and assumed that I only mail to opt-in list. The truth of the matter is that I do not have a single opt-in email in my list. What I said is that I have a targeted list that I built by buying lists and scraping. But once I bought and scraped, I reviewed them and looked for things that may not be normal. And I mailed to them very slowly without links.

No one is saying you have to have an opt-in list to get started. I would never say that as that is now how I got started.

But we are saying that you need to prove that you can send to a small amount without getting into trouble (bans, etc) before you even think about sending to millions of addresses.

The easy way is to get an smtp server with unlimited email sending option and auto ip rotation. Then you're good to go.
PM me if you need smtp solution.
