Hey guys .. I'm currently ranking #4 for a low competition niche.
My site is only 3-4 weeks old and I have the EMD.com and I've been at #4 for some time.
This niche is quite weak. The top 3 sites are all youtube videos. The #1 has 94 backlinks, #2 has 3 backlinks, and #3 has 34 backlinks.
My site has no backlinks and I know obviously adding some will help me, but I'd rather not spend alot of money on backlinks, especially for this niche.
What should I do? Tiered backlinks, social bookmarks, blog comments have all came to mine but just thought I'd ask here as I'm new to this and would rather not hurt my rankings somehow.

If I was you I would hit the site with some web2.0's if the niche is that week, that would most likely push up to the top spot alone.

Should the Web 2.0s have backlinks pointing to them or that's not needed?
If they do, I'll most likely go to fiverr for those links, is that okay or will that eventually get to my money site and harm it?

How good is your on page seo for this keyword? Did you use headings and everything as you hold have?

Send me your URL and keyword and I will take a look.

IMO, if the niche is that week, and virtually 0 competion for the keywords, I wouldnt think that you would need to build links to the web2.0's it doesnt sound like you would need much of anything to push you past your competition.

If the competition is that easy to defeat,Some social bookmarks and web 2.0's + some blog comments as second tiers should rank you in no time.

If the competition's decent backlinks are less than 200, you can still mount a campaign to get into the top 3. It would have been preferable to have done the competition check before making the site, so you could have avoided the heavy duty work needed to move up in the ranking.

If you're ranking #4 with no backlinks, what you can do is build some high pr links direct to your site and tons of contextual links via web 2.0, articles, press releases. You might notice an initial dance before your site settles again.
